Messengers of God: I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes

The Bible considers Elijah to be the prophet who must come before the end times, a prophecy of Malachi explains so:
"I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction." Malachy 4:5.
The most important God's messengers and prophets of the old testament consider that a renewal of all things must come, that is, the establishment of a new eternal and indestructible kingdom that will impose justice and the law of God, like the little apocalypse of Isaiah (Isaiah 24), and the visions of the prophet Daniel (Book of Daniel 12).
Malachi describes these future times:
"Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,´ says the LORD Almighty. ´Not a root or a branch will be left to them. But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves. Then you will trample on the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I act,´ says the LORD Almighty." Malachi 4:1-3.

Let us remember that Elijah opposed the practice of idolatry promoted by King Ahab, an evil king of Israel who married a Canaanite; Elijah performed numerous miracles, such as the challenging of the priests of Baal in 1 Kings 18:20-40, he also multiplied the flour and the oil when he was received in the house of the widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:8-16), and he also revives the widow's son who suffered from a deadly disease (1 Kings 17:17-24). Many of these miracles will later be repeated by Jesus, who is presented in a certain way as a new Elijah.
The prophet Elijah does not finally die but is taken to heaven in 2 Kings 2:11-12. Elijah, or his representation in a future time, is that person who must precede the time of great changes. Times that for Christians are already near.
