Maradona does not want Messi to achieve anything with the Argentine National Team so he - Diego - can keep being the god of soccer in Argentina.
On club level, Messi has surpassed everything Maradona achieved.
He knows if Messi can win something for the National team then he will be the greatest Argentine player that ever liveth.
He encouraged him to retire when Messi wanted to and now has taken his attacks to a whole new personal level.
