Tesseract: a new "wow" for metal fans

in metal •  7 years ago  (edited)

I don't even remember who recommended this band or why but thank you! They are absolutely incredible.

TESSERACT.jpg
everyone in the band is between the ages of 12 and 15... not really - they just have access to great skin products

The first thing a metal fan might notice is that they seem to have a sound slightly reminiscent of TOOL plus they have a really talented bass player who is featured prominently. I can tell you, as a fellow bass player, that this doesn't happen very often.

I don't know how seriously people take my musical recommendations on this website. Sometimes I think people are just fishing for an upvote (that's common, it's fine) but I believe that someone who responded to me actually suggested checking out this band and if that person was you. I owe you, pal. This band is incredible. I can use this music for exercise motivation and also for music to go to sleep by.

They are defined as a progressive metal band – and I don't even know what that means – however I did read that they were instrumental in the forming of the “djent” movement. If you don't know what that means, perhaps I will write an article about that later. It's quite funny and well, if you like metal like I do, has some great stuff in it. For me, a lot of their stuff sounds like what i call "math metal" in that the timing is crazy, and well, maybe you have to be a musician to understand how hard it can be to have irregular riffs that change every 20 seconds are so. This is quite evident in the song "Nocturne"... which is featured here

dude it's like 430pm? why you stressing about that flashlight?

One of the things that really stands out for me about Tesseract is the fact that unlike a lot of hard metal bands out there, the listener really can't tell where Tesseract is going to go next. Are they going to have a wonderful multi-tiered vocal track with piano in the back? Are they going to have a driving beat and really heavy power-chord verse coming up? Are they going to have clean vocals or a scream? There is no determining what is coming up with them and that is fantastic.

Are they metal or are they doing stand in tracks for Coldplay? Did they hire Dream Theater's singer for half the song and Marilyn Manson for the other half? I just love how one track to the next displays a massive capability on the band's part to execute a high level of variety

Amos Williams, the bass player and backup vocalist is one of the most incredible bass players I have heard in metal, ever. I say this having only been familiar with the band for a few days.

I highly recommend any metal fans give these guys a go. Like i said before, i don't know what “progressive metal” actually means. You'll have to listen for yourself and make up your own mind. I know that I am already a fan and I have only listened to one album thus far.

I hope you'll feel the same :)

Annnnd we are back to metal music. The racism post was something else. You're really dynamic. Just like Tesseract, there is no way of determining what you are going to put out there. This is my first time of coming across this musical band, Tesseract, so pardon me if I do not have much to say about them. I, however, like the attached musical videos, and the appraisal you have for them. I think I will replay them tomorrow when I'm working out. I'm out to search for more of their tracks. I hope they are as good as these ones.

Hello @gooddream once again thank you for introducing new band(tesseract) to us .
This is another new band that i am seeing..
You may flag me or not for my comment its your wish☺ ..but i will always express my views or opinion . I watched and listened to both music videos and i didnt like the 1st song. But 2nd song is just amazing especially 0 to 1 min was excellent. Music at that point was like from slow to high i like that slow pick up songs very much and at 2:30 to 3:30 the power of instruments revealed..
Finally what i say is I LOVED 2nd song so much
I searched in google about progressive metal and i found the meaning. I think you know it..-
fusion genre melding heavy metal and progressive rock which combines the loud "aggression" and amplified guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or "pseudo-classical" compositions of the latter
Thank you

haha, i wouldn't flag you pal. It was just a joke about Nickelback before. I am certain you know the internet is full of Nickelback bashing :)

Hey, not for nothin, I appreciate the suggestions. Like I said before, I am not a metal fan per say but am noticing that I enjoy opening my mind up to new possibilities. Plus I never thought about it much but I do have some metal bands in my arsenal. So props to you for the attempt to pull me to the other side (Smile Smile). Stop giving out upvotes and see who fades away. I would wager a few. Lol. I didn’t get an upvote a few times but still hang around like a bad penny. (Just tell me to leave..probably won’t work).

I gave a listen to their album ‘Altered State’. I have to tell ya I liked the song ‘Of Reality - Calabi-Yau’. Very short 2 min song. I think Thats a Saxophone in there which was cool. Reminded me of Dave Mathews. Give it a listen. I can see where maybe one of the songs here and there could aid in sleeping, but for real? You can fall asleep to this stuff? What’s your go to song for sleepy time? Or are you the random shuffle type.

Also, as an artist, I appreciate their album cover art. They have a pretty cool theme going..in my opinion.

yeah, It probably sounds strange to go to sleep to this stuff but when you are a fan like i am it just kind of depends on the situation. These songs motivate me in the gym and help me relax in bed. I used to listen to Deicide albums to get to sleep in college. I likely wont review that band on here because well, it's just too hard / weird.

Awe come on. You know you want to. Lol.

You should check out Karnivool if you guys like this.

Upvote for recommending Karnivool!

its rhythm is contagious, it has a rhythm like linkin park neither so strong nor so soft ... the vocalist has an excellent voice ... I want to recommend a Venezuelan band that is the number 1 of venezuela although it has time not to release a new album. It's called "Caramelo del Cianuro", they sing in my Spanish language but the music is great ... listen to this:

Considering the appraisal you're giving them although you just recently encountered them gives the indication that they are really good. By the way i didnt know that you play the bass guitar, no wonder you are so passionate about music. So am gonna give these guys a go and give you my feedback later. Nice post

It's good and It could be better if there's a cold beer in the table while listening to it.

I've been reading and learning about metal and rock music since I've been reading from you, this is the very first time I would be checking on the video. I love reading so much, that's why!

But, I'm totally convinced after watching the video, this is just it. The graphics, the actions, the passion, the instruments. Everything is just super awesome.

Please, can I have the link to the video, I'm in love the song already.. Smile

Thanks for introducing me something which I don't know.I love music and I frequently listen to music during my routine works. Thanks @gooddream for a new album in my playlists 😉

viva el Rock! muchas gracias!

I find the musical recommendations super interesting. Of you in particular, I would tell you as they say around here "you know how to sell the product" hahaha, the simple and funny way you describe these bands motivates you to listen to the bands you recommend, at least it happens to me. Good for Tesseract!

Got djent?

Cant believe you just found out about these guys a few days ago! Some of my other fav djent,..tell me you know of Periphery? Here's a taste..

Also both Tesseract and Periphery put on killer live shows!

All right just one more, what's the harm,.. when you have the chance check out Animals As Leaders! I'll leave you with this..

Tesseract was the first band of Djent i heard and the same blow my mind. When i heard to Daniel Tompkins and his massive vocal, i never stop to listen all his ex band Skyharbor (my favorite one)

Another music project of Daniel Tompkins (Retro Music)

Beatiful piece.

Thank you good sir for sharing, check out the band, Axel Rudi Pell - you'll be sure to love!

It's very strange..it has a lot of elements and sounds I fundamentally don't like individually but listening to a bit more, I think it could grow on me... makes me a bit uncomfortable.. sort of like my first month of listening to Dream Theater.
