The largest rock concert in Minnesota is almost upon us in a couple of days at the new US Bank Stadium - Metallica, A7X, and Volbeat. I bought my tickets the day that they were available on TicketMaster on March 24th. I thought I was buying my tickets from TicketMaster when I was on the phone at work frantically trying to buy my tickets before they sold out. I had almost completely gotten through ordering my General Admission floor tickets when the seller, on the other end, named the price at $300/ticket after fees. I knew right then, that something was wrong because the tickets only should have been $175 per ticket. It turns out that I had called MasterTicketCenter rather than TicketMaster to purchase my tickets. After spending all of my break time trying to acquire these tickets, I decided to purchase two tickets from MasterTicketCenter at the inflated price. After I got off the phone, I was elated to have purchased some of the most desirable concert tickets for a Rock music fan and TicketMaster was said to have sold out of all Metallica tickets within the first 10 minutes.
It is upsetting to me that large vendors like MasterTicketCenter have the capital to invest and buy up large quantities of tickets and resell them so quickly at nearly double the price.
With that said, I recently sold my tickets for $500/ticket on Stub Hub, which I received $450/ticket after fees. I sold my tickets on August 18th, 2016. So I was able to make about $300 on the resale of the two tickets I purchased because my husband posted the tickets on StubHub. I didn't think they would sell because the price was so outrageous, but it was a price where if someone purchased the tickets, then we'd rather have the money than go to the concert.
I don't know what is more exciting, making a profit on an investment or going to a rock concert. Both things give me great joy.
There are some ongoing complications with our tickets however, because they were in electronic format when we purchased them from MasterTicketCenter. We have been working with StubHub to make sure the tickets are available to the buyer, but I still don't know if they uploaded properly on StubHub so that the buyer can print them out. Worst case scenario would be if the person who bought the tickets couldn't access the tickets or the tickets didn't print, and then complained to StubHub AFTER the concert was over and we didn't get to go to the concert and we lost our $600 investment in the tickets. I will keep you updated as to whether everything went smoothly in selling our tickets. Will we get our $900 from StubHub without any complaints about the tickets working? Or will we end up going to the concert after all? Or will we not go to the concert and lose everything? We will find out this weekend. The concert is tomorrow night on Aug 20th, 2016.
