Hello friends!
It's been over a week now that I didn't continue our Mewari learning journey. But don't assume that I've forgotten about it. I actually love doing everything at a slow pace. So let's continue to move a little further in our journey.
Today, I'd like to introduce you to some common words and sentences:
Hello / नमस्ते = Ram-Ram / राम-राम or Aur sa? / और सा?
Here I'd like to mention that Rajasthan is famous for its hospitality everywhere. People here tend to give respect to everything. So all the languages spoken here gives more emphasis to words conferring respect to the listener. Sa (सा) is one such word. This is equivalent to "जी" in Hindi, which is suffixed to give respect to any person or thing. You can consider it equivalent to "Sir" but it is gender-neutral. Rajasthan is perhaps the only place where name calling or abusive words too end with a respectful "Sa".
How are you? / How do you do? / आप कैसे हैं? = और सा? थां कस्तर हो? / Aur sa? Thaan kastar ho? or और कई हाल है सा, आपरा? / Aur kai haal hai sa, aapra?
How / कैसे = कस्तर / kastar
You / आप = थां / thaan
Your / आपके = आपरा / aapa OR थानां / thaana
What/ क्या = कई / kai
And / और = और / aur
Hope this is enough for today. We'll continue learning Mewari a few words at a time.
Thank you for putting your efforts with me!
Mewari is a shaan of our Rajasthan.
