In the northern part of Riviera Nayarit is the laid-back and quaint seaside town of Sayulita. Small yet lively, and buzzing with different types of people. Surfers, the young crowd doing Mexico on the cheap, couples having a romantic getaway, families enjoying the relaxing ambiance, people who are just there for a wedding - they all found this little slice of heaven.
The cozy small-town feel in Sayulita is immediate with cobblestone streets and an array of local cafes, bars, trendy boutiques and surf shops. Sayulita is not a glamorous place where everything is polished, sleek and new. You come here for a traditional Mexican vacation sprinkled with tons of local flavor.
Sayulita used to be one of those vacation spots no one had heard of. This has all changed in the recent years. You are probably reading this because someone you know have mentioned or recommended Sayulita. It has the perfect romantic settings for a destination wedding. More than a few visitors to Sayulita come to unplug from the stress and hustle of work and everyday life. You won't find people rushing to go anywhere like you would in some of the more popular destinations in Mexico such as Cancun and the Riviera Maya.
Sayulita is small enough that walking will take you where you need to go. Even though that's the case many use golf carts to get around. You will find that golf carts can be rented almost everywhere in Sayulita. Ask at the hotel or head into town and find one of the several places renting them out. We have had good experience with Pacific Coast Golf Carts but look around in town and see who you like.
Even though Sayulita is a small cozy place there are still plenty of activities to do during your stay. We have put together a great list of things to do in Sayulita which can help you create your very own activity itinerary.

With that being said, this article is focusing on the more luxurious hotels when choosing the best places to stay in Sayulita.

Villa Amor Sayulita
Photo: villaamor.com
Hotel Villa Amor is a beautiful boutique hotel with spectacular views overlooking the bay of Sayulita. The hotel itself has a one of a kind location encrusted into the hillside. You have the best of both worlds. It is located close to everything, with just a short walk into town, but still, has that secluded feeling.
You come to relax, soak up the sun and escape technology, big city life or whatever you need to escape from. Here you can focus entirely on your family, spouse or significant other, and have a great vacation in beautiful luxury surroundings.
The amazing beaches of Sayulita are just a few steps from the hotel, and you can fully enjoy a breathtaking view from the top. Getting to the top can be challenging for some as the climb is rather steep. It is worth if though for the incredible view overlooking the bay.
Rooms at Villa Amor are without TV's and there are no phones either. That will, for some, be an issue as you have to walk down to the front desk if you need anything. Wifi is available but not reliable, to say the least. Staying in a boutique hotel such as Villa Amor is not about being able to use your laptop or smartphones.
You come here to relax, soak up the sun and escape technology, big city life or whatever you need to escape from. Here you can focus entirely on your family, spouse or significant other, and have a great vacation in beautiful luxury surroundings.
One nice benefit is that Hotel Villa Amor offers free towels and paddle boards to use at the beach.
The Villa Amor Hotel and Amor Boutique Hotel (also on our list) is, in essence, one property but function as two different hotels. This can be confusing as the check-in desks are right next to each other.
Villa Amor is in our opinion one of the best luxury hotels in Sayulita.

Haramara Retreat Sayulita
Photo: haramararetreat.com
Let's get the most important thing addressed right away. Haramara is a rugged yet luxurious retreat center. That means NO electricity in the casitas. Yep, you read that correct. The Haramara Retreat Sayulita is an eco yoga retreat providing a perfect balance between simplicity and luxury.
The no electricity means no TV, wifi, ceiling fans or air conditioning in the room. What you will have is open air showers, candles, kerosene lamps, mosquito nets, and hammocks. That is everything you need for an unforgettable stay where you get to rest, restore, and reflect.
We would recommend bringing a headlamp or flashlight for walking around the property at night. The Haramara Retreat covers a 12-acre area and you end up walking quite a bit every day in somewhat rough terrain. Room assignment will mean a lot but expect to walk almost everywhere. It is quite the hike going to and from the dining area, yoga palapas or pool. Needless to say: The Haramara Retreat is for those who are active or don't mind walking. Consider it a bonus, as all the walking will be good for your health and of course your legs.
The food is organic, local, and absolutely delicious. The staff is amazing and service is second to none.
Haramara features two incredible yoga pavilions with excellent views. Upper shala provides the best sunrise view, while the lower shala when you want to watch the sunset. No luxury hotel in Sayulita would be complete without a stunning infinity pool overlooking the water and trees.

Casablanca Sayulita Beach Front Hotel
Photo: casablancasayulita.com
Casablanca Sayulita is perfectly located right on the beach north of town. It is far enough away from the hustle and noise of town to ensure quiet relaxation, yet just a quick walk to restaurants and stores.
The Casablanca hotel has 14 villas, or suites if you will, featuring all the amenities you want to see at a luxury resort. Heated pool, air-conditioned villas, outdoor place to BBQ and a rooftop jacuzzi on one of the buildings. It happens to be the only hotel on our list with TV in the rooms. Casablanca Sayulita provides free wifi that actually reaches the entirety of the hotel.
Casablanca is the best place to stay in Sayulita for those not willing to compromise on wifi availability. Especially if you or the family place importance on internet access while on vacation.
One of our main points for loving this Sayulita hotel is that it is very cost effective for a beach front hotel in Sayulita. The hotel is very budget friendly and has that relaxed vibe from the moment you arrive.

There is an amazing view from the top of the hotel that will take your breath away. That's if climbing the stairs haven't left you too flushed and out of breath in the first place. Every step up is worth the view though.
The beautiful beach Playa De Los Muertos, which is great for swimming, is just a short walk from the hotel. The hotel offers their guests free yoga classes, with excellent instructors, every morning at 9:30.

What Is The Best Hotel in Sayulita?
Picking a definitive "Winner" as the best hotel in Sayulita to stay in is next to impossible. Each of the hotels mentioned here in this roundup is more than worthy of the title. We could be arguing forever about this - even if we asked people that have tried several of the accommodations above.
I am often told about the best food, the best hotel, the best experience this or that. Having a great time at a hotel or resort is, more than often, enhanced by the company and mood you are in. I always try to put things in perspective by giving the example of a couple spending their honeymoon at a high-end resort. You just got married, the weather is amazing and you find yourself getting pampered at an all-inclusive resort. You are far more likely to rate a resort high when you are in a great mood.

I came by a coffee shop in Mexico City once that accepted Bitcoin - so to think that someone (maybe not hotels that are part of a chain) would accept Steem is not that big of a stretch :)

Such a beauty without electricity is uncalled for. I'm guessing it's part of the beauty to exclude electricity. Nice one
