Welcome to Travel Memories of Mexico #3
A series of travel photos and stories from wonderful Mexico.
We hired a guide! Best guided tour ever!
It is not unusual to be overrun by locals offering their guide services when visiting tourist attractions, and Chichen Itza was no exemption. We didn't just say yes to the first offer but took our time. Maybe it was luck but we happened to have the best experience with a tour guide.
So... our guide, can't recall his name though, must really love his job cause he gave it everything. Every detail was explained, and he had a huge folder with extra information and pictures to further our education. Best of it all, for me, was that he took his time and never seemed in a hurry - he just liked to talk with us about every aspect.
Needless to say. We tipped him very well for his services.
Structures built to absolute perfection!
I was completely blown away by the structures and how perfectly they were built. Keep in mind that these buildings go a few years back and was done by pure manual labor and without the use of modern technology.
Sadly I can't remember all of it, but one of the amazing things is the perfect acoustics of the pyramids. Go check out videos on Youtube and you will see what I'm talking about. Everything about the buildings was done to perfection. The mathematical, astronomical, and acoustical design is beyond belief and it is truly an impressive accomplishment. And to rival such skills today, even with modern technology, would be extremely difficult if not impossible.
Should you visit if you are in the Cancun area??? Is it worth it?
No question here. YES! As long as you have the slightest interest in culture then make sure that Chichen Itza is on the short list of possible day trips during a vacation to Cancun or the Riviera Maya.
I will leave you with a selection of pictures I took that day.
The pyramid in all its glory.
Information about the city.
An impressive sight - and even more so when you know the story.
Looking like a real tourist here.
Different sections of the city had equally interesting stories.
Serpents head sculpture as part of the building.
Every building had stories on every wall.
Impressive entrance. Was closed off so we couldn't go up there.
Playing field for the ancient Aztec ball game that involved human sacrifice... woot!
There were plenty of chances to buy some souvenirs/trinkets of varying quality. Some were really well made and of high quality, like some of the wood carvings (not in picture).
Thank you for taking a trip down memory lane with me!

Lucky for me I didn't have/get to climb the stairs. Was hard enough walking around most of a day in the baking sun - but well worth it for sure. Was an amazing place to see, and was only made better by the guide.
