The messaging platform, WhatsApp testing a new feature called "Mark as Read", which enables the user to mark the chat as read from the notification centre directly. This feature is in the Android beta version 2.18.214, but still its not available to users yet.
Whats App also incorporating features like chatting without adding the contacts. chat filters and the group admin can restrict sending messages of the group members.
