steem is a crypto currency like others and can be traded on exchanges like bitreex, upbit etc. it is the base currency of Steemit platform.it can be converted into steem power and steem dolloar.

It is also a crypto currency like others and can be traded on exchanges like bitreex,upbit etc. it is not converted directly into steem power , first you should convert it into steem then you can buy steem power.

Steem power is steem in itself which has been blocked in vested,meaning it can't be immediately withdrawn to spend. there is a process to convert steem into steem power calling "powering down".
steem power is the main thing to grow on steemit.the more steem power you have the more you will grow.
BENIFITS OF STEEM POWER
1.Steem power gives you influence on Steemit.
2.The more SP you have, the more money you give to authors with an up vote.
3.The more SP you have, the greater the curation rewards you can earn.
