The "Wilkins House" and the property it sits on was purchased in December 2013 by developer Dan Simmons, according to the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation.
They say when he announced plans to develop the property, new buyer Neil Wilson stepped in to save the house by moving it to a new site to perform renovations.
The trust raised $300,000 this year to contribute toward the estimated $1.5 million to restore and move the house, according to the Trust.
In exchange for that financial help with what the Trust says is the largest house move in South Carolina history, the Trust secured easements and covenants that the house will not be torn down or moved again.
