For today's weed news we go to the great state of Michigan.
Eighty-year-old Michigan MMJ patient and great grandmother Dolores Saltzman was arrested this week for having a small amount of medical cannabis in her home. She had apparently let her medical marijuana card expire.
Ashley Gruno, a Clare County Sheriff's Deputy knocked on Delores' door on June 13th while trying to return Delores' great-granddaughter's lost cell phone and ID.
Once the deputy was on the property, she reported smelling cannabis and asked whose it was. Delores replied that it was hers and that she was a medical marijuana patient.
The deputy decided to search Dolores' bedroom and take pictures of everything she found including "several pipes, four joints and one purple jar with an undisclosed amount of cannabis". In total, Dolores says she had less than 1/8 (3.5g)of medical cannabis total.
Next, Deputy Gruno slapped some handcuffs on the eighty-year-old, walked her out to the squad car and arrested her without even reading her her Miranda Rights.
Dolores Saltzman would spend a night in jail and be released the next morning.
Thankfully, after showing up to court on August 2nd, a judge in Clare County dismissed all charges against Delores without prejudice.
"I just thought it was absolutely ridiculous to put her through this like that: they could have given her a ticket... I'm hoping that we learn a lesson from this and that we make amends, and people will get out and vote for it" said Delores' son Mark Saltzman, adding "We're the ones that have to stand up we are the people, and we just got to fight for our rights."
I couldn't agree more! it's up to us to make a change in any way we can so that stuff like this doesn't continue to happen.
And all because she let her MMJ card expire.

It's a good thing that judge wasn't a dick. It is absurd that arrests like this still happen but they do all the time. I knew an old ass man that got busted for one tiny roach in his ashtray.
