This technique has many names (including brand names that are used as generic name): roller treatment, dermaroller, micro needling, needles, dermatude, dermapen, mts roller. The idea behind microneedling is that if the skin has a wound it will then start to close the wound as soon as possible. Microneedling is a term for treating the skin surface with ultra-thin needles. This can be done with rollers with needles or with the automatic Dermapen.
By making miniscule holes in the skin layers, our own repair system is immediately set in motion, which produces collagen and elastin, making the skin firmer and more elastic again. Lines, wrinkles and acne scars are caused by a lack of underlying elastin and collagen fibers. Because microneedling stimulates it’s production, the underlying skin layers are filled with new collagen and elastin.
An additional advantage is that the needles create channels through which all kinds of nutrients in serums and creams penetrate deeper into the skin and are absorbed many times better. Contrary to what is often claimed in advertisements, no collagen or elastin can penetrate the layers where it is needed when simply rubbed on the epidermis.
