Microsoft invites a teacher to share his experience in computer teaching with only the whiteboard.
Richard Appiah Akoto, a computer teacher from Ghana who drew the whole look of Microsoft Word on a whiteboard using chalk as a medium of learning, was invited by the owner of the program to tell the story.
He speaks on Education Exchange, an association of nearly 400 teachers from 91 countries aiming to find new ways of teaching students to succeed in the digital age. Richard himself admitted this is the first time he left Ghana, considering the event was held in Singapore.
I want to teach them how to use Microsoft Word, but I do not have a computer to show it to them.
I have to do my best, so I decided to draw a screen that looks as real as possible on the board using chalk, he continued.
The absence of adequate equipment, he added, was due to the destruction of the only computer belonging to the school where he was teaching, the Betenase Municipal Assembly Junior High in Sekyedumase, a small town in Ghana. Worse yet, his laptop was also damaged.
They actually have some knowledge of computers, but they do not know how to actually operate them directly, Akoto said.
Microsoft party also offers help to provide devices and software for the school. In addition, Akoto also had the opportunity to get certification from the company called Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE).
Previously, Richard used his Facebook account under the name Owura Kwadwo Hottish to share his experience in teaching Microsoft Word using whiteboard media.
Until now, the upload has been favored more than 9 thousand times and distributed no less 4 thousand times.
