Illustrations for the Japanese gothic romance novel "Kouya Hijiri" by Midjourney.
Kouya Hijiri or Priest of Mt. Kouya is a gothic romance written by Izumi Kyoka (泉鏡花)about the experiences of an itinerant monk. First published in 1901. Mt. Kouya is a Buddhism sacred mountain in Osaka. In this short novel, an old monk from Mt. Kouya told his mysterious experience in his youth to a young man in an old inn at northern part of Japan.
