Labour Minster Ith Samheng said that migrant workers who recently returned home should contact provincial labor departments to seek new jobs and have their health checked to stem the spread of Coronavirus.
In a letter issued today, Mr Samheng said that returning migrant workers should follow the Health Ministry’s directive by having self-quarantine.
“In cases, returning migrant workers want to find local jobs, please contact labor department and job centres in capital and provinces to look for job opportunities,” he said.
Mr Samheng added that the returning migrant workers should help their parents with farming, while they are awaiting landing new jobs overseas.
According to the Ministry of Interior’s report, more than 90,000 migrant workers recently returned home from Thailand.
It said that now the migrant workers could not get back to Thailand after the Khmer New Year because that country has gone in a lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
