The actual title of the dumb article in question was We will all be dead by the time the USA has 12 carriers! and the article was quoting an interview done with Navy Secretary Thomas Modly.
The title of the article was dumb enough, the notion that the USA somehow needs this many carriers is dumber, and the omission of several key aspects of the actual story are even dumberer.

I've seen one of these bad boys up close and I'll tell you, it is an absolutely awesome display of power. The destructive capabilities that one of these vessels have is beyond comprehension really, as is the average price tag of around $13 billion for one of them.
The story has a clickbait title for sure because it gives the impression that there is some sort of urgent military need for 12 carriers because of some sort of approaching threat. There's just one problem: There is no approaching threat and the "We'll all be dead" was referring to the turn around time in manufacturing as opposed to scheduled decommission of existing carriers. Basically the Navy Secretary was saying that we will all pass away from old age before the USA has a fleet of 12 modern and functional carriers.
There is also the fact that the article mentions way down the line that most people probably didn't make it to where the Secretary was actually referring to a specific kind of carrier, not just carriers in general. Basically, there are 9 carriers that the U.S. military already has that don't qualify as being an "aircraft carrier" only by United States standards.

When you look at the actual capacity of the United States Navy in regards to carriers, no other country comes anywhere close. As you can see from the above graphic, the USA has more carrier might than the rest of the world combined. Not to mention the fact that everyone on the list that also has a carrier, is an ally of the U.S.A.
So why the propaganda? Are we really so desperate to continue spending trillions on "defense" that we need to be that far ahead of anyone and everyone else? the article in question is not only fake news, but it is completely unnecessary, fear-mongering bullcrap.
