Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps held a naval parade in the Persian Gulf on Jan. 9, the U.S. "Military" website reported Jan. 10, citing the Associated Press.
The report said the parade was held near Iran's Farsi Island, where Iranian forces seized two U.S. ships and 10 U.S. soldiers that entered Iranian territorial waters on Jan. 13, 2016. Iranian state television said this Jan. 9 naval parade coincided with the seizure of U.S. soldiers that year in terms of timing.
Iranian public video footage shows that dozens of ships participated in the parade, while Iranian state television claims that as many as hundreds of ships participated in the parade.
Also according to AFP 4, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed the same day that a South Korean-flagged oil tanker was detained because of chemicals that polluted the waters.
The U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet said the relevant departments are aware of the situation and are closely monitoring it. In addition, Iranian army ground forces, air force, air defense forces and naval forces will hold a large-scale two-day joint drone combat exercise for the first time on the 5th.
