Do I really need to explain this to you? If you have never taken LSD, maybe I do.

In the 1980’s, in the punk rock scene, I could get a hit of blotter acid for $3. Trip balls for 12 hours. That’s a really good value for a drug, on a per hour basis. I took LSD alone one time. One of the best trips I ever had. I’ve also taken mushrooms, and while similar, LSD really lets you start to see things in a different way. It could just be an ordinary thing, a stick or a rock, you start to see it like, almost at an atomic level. At least that’s how it was for me.

One time, I came to a realization that things get a lot smaller, in our observable universe, and also a lot larger, yet at a distance, seem similar. To the point where you look at an atom, it resembles a solar system. What if, there is a sub atomic layer? And another layer below that?

“Would anyone like to smoke some pot?”

What I didn’t realize, and I get absolutley no credit for, since I was not any sort of recognizable person, just some drugged out HS student, was M Theory, or String Theory. It’s sort of like that scene in Animal House where the guy says, “You mean there could be an entire universe under my fingernail?” Yes ... but, it’s maybe more interesting than that, even. What if I said you never die? There are infinite versions of you, in this space/time multiverse. Everything possible that exists, exists. All the time.

These are the kinds of answers you come up with when you ponder, “what is infinity?” while on LSD.

Some people on a “low-rent” fantasy football message board called me out on this, what? You came up with String Theory in the 80’s? Yeah, I dunno about that. This was not based on any kind of mathematical formulas or anything. I had made an observation, layers of time and space, while under the influence of a psychtropic drug. I didn’t “invent” anything. And of course it was never published, I get no credit, FOR SURE, for coming up with concept of M theory. Since it is hard to describe to someone NOT under the influence of LSD, ya know ... nobody took me seriously when I talked about it. Deja vu.

Here’s some other weird shit I came up with on LSD:

Wind is gravity moving sideways.

It isn’t, sort of. I mean, if you think of the whole planet as like, whirling around in space, it’s a wonder wind is not extreme. It is not, uninfluenced by gravity, I am pretty sure. I do not have a genius level IQ, I can’t answer these questions.

So where does that leave us, you ask? Well, if you believe God made Heaven and Earth, nothing changes. You realize that has no basis in scientific fact and believed it before, so why change now? If you understood, kind of, the theory of relativity, not the actual math, but what it was trying to do, what it was attempting to explain, and you understand a little bit about Membrane or String Theory, perhaps there is not much reason to continue. However if you find this stuff confusing, and hard to understand ...yeah to each his own, I guess, but LSD really opened my eyes to a whole new persepctive on the universe, like nothing else. It was like it gave me microscopic vision, even later, when it had worn off.

Ok, now for the desert, a really funny story. When I was 30, I dated this Indian chick who was 20. College dropout. What did you study, I asked and she says, “Physics.” and I say, oh, well I love physics, like I studied art in college, I study physics for fun. Let’s talk about physics. Then somehow the words “fact that the universe is expanding” comes out of her mouth. And I interrupt, “well, theory.” And she pauses and says, “What?” and I said, “It’s not fact it is theory. The big bang THEORY.” and we pretty much broke up over this. This is word for word what she said to me, “If you don’t believe the universe is expanding, I’m not sure we can be friends anymore.” to which I exclaimed, “Friends! Oh, we were never friends.” and over lunch, in a diner, in New York City, we got in an argument about whether it is fact or theory that the “universe is expanding.”

I think the biggest problem was at 20, yer just a kid. Little LSD would help too. Expand your ability to accept different opinions, at least.
