Knowledge is the fundamental basis for a comfortable life of a person and society.
Knowledge. Have you ever wondered what it is? The laconic definition of this term is as follows: knowledge is the result of the process of cognitive activity. This statement is true and true, but let's look a little deeper. Or further. And better - further back.
Thousands of years ago, our ancestors began their cognitive activity. Through trial and error, they learned to get food, to make fire — in short, to improve in every way the conditions of their existence.
It is obvious that initially the general vector of all their activities was uncommon - to survive. Such a seemingly primitive task by our standards, at that time was the key for the continuation of the human race. And for the sake of this very idea - the idea of procreation, people literally risked and often gave up their lives.
And if you thought about death due to wars or the claws of predators - this is only one part. There were other hazards and risks - the classification of knowledge. To make it more clear: how to determine which mushrooms are poisonous and which are not? What dose of one plant will cure, and which one will already be fatal? Which cave will remain a shelter tomorrow, and which one will fill up tonight? What kind of fish will be tasty food, and what the last touch? What animal means prey, and what - inevitable death?
Yes, for many years, people have personally accumulated this knowledge and carefully passed on to next generations. What could not be passed from mouth to mouth was recorded in rock art (drawings). The chances of survival of each individual and society as a whole depended on the level of knowledge. From a rational point of view, despite the conventionally primitive needs, knowledge was more important than food and water. For ultimately they increased the likelihood of living a little longer.
Of course, over time, knowledge has constantly evolved, expanded, changed and supplemented. But one thing has always been and always will be - knowledge is the fundamental basis for a comfortable life of a person and society.
After this conclusion, let's go back thousands of years ago. Suppose people have already learned a lot, understood a lot, but now they have a new feature. Initially, all people's attention was focused on the most important thing - the desire to survive. And all knowledge, naturally, had just such a vector. But over time, people's lives became more comfortable and they began to notice, memorize and accumulate a completely different experience - information.
They did not always know how to apply it, what she could give them. But the fact that this or that phenomenon or object exists has begun to be increasingly deposited in their brain.
To make it easier for you to understand, I will give a rough example. Living on the shore of the reservoir, the inhabitants for a long time noticed that their wooden spears, and indeed the branches of the trees, did not sink in the water. This fact remained a fact for several hundred years. This information was supplemented and constantly expanded, but so far has not had any practical application.
But suddenly an interesting experience was obtained - the whole log did not sink in the water. Moreover, someone even climbed on it and the log also remained afloat. Then, by trial and error, it was revealed that trunks of different radii either hold people or sink with them. Further, it was decided to select several trees of suitable radius and link them together.
Then this design of the raft received over time either canes to push off from the bottom or paddles for movement. As a result, this knowledge was converted into the development of the other bank of the river. And then, after thousands of years, the evolution of this knowledge allowed us to discover new continents. Today, the consequences of this knowledge allow ships to walk in the ice, transport thousands of tons of cargo and carry a huge number of passengers.
I repeat - this is a very rough example, but it vividly demonstrates the fact how information can be converted into knowledge. And, as we know from today, knowledge (for example, in the form of science, research and experimentation) allows us to obtain new information. Which, by the way, can then be converted back into knowledge.
Some readers may notice that it would be more logical to organize this chapter by placing the information first and then the knowledge. Maybe. But then you will be even more surprised (and then not surprised) that the next term we will examine is skill.
In terms of terminology, skill is a skill created by habit and exercise, that is, by repetitive actions.
And yes, when the ancient man got involved in catching fish (worked through the skill), he was finally able to think in more detail about the fact that the tree does not sink in water. That is, he was able to handle the new information. And then, by experience, applying this information, he converted it into new knowledge - he built a raft and, perhaps, sailed to a better life.
In the end, we got an important cyclical algorithm: information is empirically converted into knowledge; the constant use of knowledge in experience allows you to develop a skill; the skill allows you to take a different look at the experience and notice new information; New information, which can then be again converted into a skill. Here is such a knowledge.
