SevTech: Ages - Modded Minecraft

in minecraft •  6 years ago

So my gaming patterns include sporadic deep dives to the classic, Minecraft. I prefer to play heavily modded Minecraft. My computer brain loves the added complexity and potential automation that comes with large modpacks. I usually gravitate through "kitchen sink" modpacks that contain a ton of mods which allows me to play with many different mods and focusing on whichever mods interested me at the time. Recently I've been trying gated or "expert" style large modpacks. What these modpacks do is integrate the various mods so that you can't go super far in one mod without using items from other mods. This slows overall advancement as you can't focus on one mod which will quickly render other mods irrelevant. Gating also allows less popular mods get their time in the sun as they may become very useful when access to the full breadth of mod options is not yet available.

My current Minecraft obsession is SevTech: Ages. This pack is rapidly becoming my favorite of all time and I want to recommend it to my readers. The pack is divided into ages. One starts in the Stone Age where you are missing even some of the conveniences of vanilla Minecraft. It truly felt like a primitive experience as I tried to build up a base, cook food over a fire and try to defend myself with stone weapons. The ages and even specific crafting recipes are locked behind an advancement system which usually involves building a certain item. There is a core path to advance through each age and many side achievements that will both help guide one through the steps needed to achieve the core path plus extra bonus items if one is willing to try to get them. Even natural resources like ores are hidden from the player until you reach the appropriate stage.

I have played through the Stone Age and just hit the next age, which seems to be the Bronze age. Now I have access to regular storage and crafting table and can see copper and tin ore. I haven't gotten to play that age much yet, but I'm looking forward to getting to put some time into that age.

If you like to play modded Minecraft then I would definitely recommend trying it out. It's not the fastest progressing modpack out there, but one will definitely get a strong feeling of achievement as one works their way through the mod. If you want to get the modpack you need to have a paid version of Minecraft which can be found here. Make sure to get the Java version of Minecraft and not the new Windows 10, mobile, or console versions. The easiest way to get the mods is to go through the Twitch app. Download the twitch app which doubles as a Minecraft launcher. From the app you can search for different Minecraft mods. Search for "Sevtech" and you should be able to find the mod. Once you download the mod you can launch the modpack. It's a big modpack so it will take a while to load, but it's worth the wait. All credit and thanks to Darkosto for making this excellend modpack.
