will it spark joy

This may seem very familiar as Minimalist Marie Kondo says: does it spark joy.

While I have not had the pleasure of actually reading any of her books yet (a mishap with shipping), the phrase of sparking joy is indeed a simple yet almost tangible.

In this era of consumerism, ease of credit, instant gratification and abundance; we are allowed to enjoy life to whay we perceive is the fullest.

In my 20s, it was work-play-spend. In my 30s, the "responsibility" kicked in and savings was added to the equation. In my 30s too, I began to realize that having a lot did not make me a happier person. In fact, decluttering or spring cleaning exposed so much unnecessary items I had. In fact, many of which I did not even remember I had.

After about 10 big bags of thrash, I really question myself, what did all this represent? Serendipity had that the idea of Minimalism waa also evolving and becoming popular. And unlike what many think, Minimalism isn't about poverty. Enriching it is to me. To own less and yet be happy. There was also a documentary on Netflix about this and it portrayed people of different social economic status all embracing Minimalism.

What is it for me?

• reduce stress - stress of constantly cleaning up mess or clutter

• reduce wasting time on how I should dress - not saying you need to leave the house with clothes on, but a Minimal wardrobe gives you minimal reason to fret over what goes with what

• reduce thrash!

• be responsible and embrace life as it is. I'm not born with a silver spoon, and the reality is, your pay if your money. You can't be (shouldn't be) spending above that - been there and bitten by credit.

• reduce headaches and body tension - the problem with me is that I can't move on until something is settled, and I want to reduce this "unsettled matters". Well a massage is great but alike visiting the dentist when having a toothache, massages are more pain then comforting when you are all knotted up.

Why have I started to blog about this?

I'm quite a sharer and I hope that the information posted here is relevant and helps. Furthermore, a lot of information is available but feasibility isn't. In Kota Kinabalu, we still have a lot of limited options and could use a lot of intervention and sharing of ideas (especially with thrash management, owh, and maybe on electricity too). So let's make do and make the best our of the resources we have and who knows, maybe dialogues will end up sparking new ideas.
