Moments ago a new army of @supercomputing mining bots entered the mining queue.
The mining queue grew from 110-ish to 137, pushing the mining difficulty waaay up:
My estimated time to mine 1 STEEMPOWER @28Khs is now 79997 minutes or 55days, O M G!
If the queue stays like this, normal hobby miners are DONE mining! :'(
@arhag has discovered that he made actually a hack ... you can see more details on channel #mining at https://steemit.chat/ they will soon fix the problem....

Thanks for letting us know @liondani!
Oh man @arhag really is THE minig expert, he helped me and other miners so much! <3

GPU miner.

Ummmm please elaborate. Is this something you know or are you just speculating?

He has 31 sequenced places in the queue right now. So 31 times his hashrate was higher than all others. Therefore I am assuming his has a GPU miner.

But that doesn't prove he's using a GPU the name would imply he has access to some massive CPU resources. He might be someone at a University or with access to a supercomputer.
Maybe because it's summer there is some downtime on whatever supercomputer they are using.

If this is true, I hope someone releases a public version. Otherwise, a small group of people will have a complete monopoly on mining, which will not be healthy for the steem economy.

It doesn't prove it but it's a plausible theory that someone has figured out how run the steemd program on a GPU and is now running it on a powerful GPU rig. The steemd program is open source on github. Someone with moderate to high c++ programming skills could adapt this code to run on GPU using something like CUDA or OpenCL. This could theoretically yield hash rates 10 fold and on a multi-high-end GPU rig you could have multiple GPU's on one system, yielding 600k-1200k.

You are right but it proves that the 31 sequenced places in the queue are coming from one machine.

Well a new day has rolled out and super-computing is still in full swing, actually it got worse. For me it's currently up-to about 3 weeks per block, (flipping between approx 17000 and 33000 minutes per block) ... I turned on mining to check it out, now I'll shut it down again... pointless

This seems to be the normal evolution of a popular crypto currency. It's value went up and so it attracted speculators with resources. I'm wondering what kind of speed these accounts are hashing at.
Is this maybe because of eobot cloud hashing? Are people pooling cpu resources for hashing or are these just big multi core cpu servers?

Pool mining steem is not possible AFAIK.
I assume they rent the hashpower/servers somewhere.
I can't imagine someone running a steem mining farm that large from home :D

omg. iam mining with 30 computers, 450000 hps total. i get about 20 blocks per day. this was yesterday. maybe i can stop now, will see.

Feel free to post a picture of your 30 computer home mining farm, I'd love to see it! :)

This are cheap rental-servers with quad core, each 25k hps, total about 750k hps, not 450k.
But now "supercomputer" has 119/125 slots...
The only good thing about is - i hated "rabbit" for having so much hashpower and now even rabbit is from the run ;)

I am mining at eobot it gives me the same rate as before.

Thanks for sharing!
I prefer to mine on my own hardware tho, it's more fun imo ;-)

What kind of khps are you getting and how much have you been mining? My worry is that as the queue and difficulty grow the ability to hash a solution won't be feasible on consumer grade hardware.
If the difficulty keeps going up won't it get to a point where you will need to be doing mhps to solve these blocks in under 3 seconds?

28khps and 30 blocks or so
Exactly my worry too!

I picked up a block at 45000/hps earlier ... fat chance of that now... only had one witness/miner at the time, upped to 3 since

I've been running at 24 - 26khps for 16 hours and haven't solved a single block from what I can tell. Is this normal?

@contentjunkie max reply depth reached so I'll reply here :)
It is not abnormal, I have days like that too.
Watch https://steemd.com/@contentjunkie
it will say "found a pow" when you are in the queue.
Also your miner then will decrease to 1 hps (if your config only has 1 miner that is!)
