It started as a 16x RX 580 Ethereum mining rig, because I’ve made a lot of 16x GPU rigs with NVIDIA p106-100. Finnaly I used 8 RX 580 per motherboard.
I am using an Asus B250 Mining Pro Expert Motherboard with 19 PCI-e x1 slots. Because of running ETHOS, I had to use only 16 GPU’s, because Ethos only support 16 GPU’s.
Started with modding the bios of the 16 RX 580’s with Micron memory, using Polaris Bios Editor and flashing on Ethos(Linux) with root acces.
So why not, using also 16x RX 580’s/ per rig ???
Well, the first problem was something with “ring” word in it. Searched on Google and I found that it could be related to fan issues, but it was not the case, the fans were running good.
Here is the ring error.
After I forgot about it, I could only get 25.8 Mh/s.
My cards had Micron memory which are not the best used on these cards, there are also Hynix and Samsung, Hynix are the best as looked on Google.
After I accepted the fact I could only run at 25 Mh/s and drawing an amount of 1640W from the socket I just could not accept the fact, there were so much power wasted for 25/mhz compared to Nvidia’s P106-100 wich makes 24 Mh/s and draws 85-90W, there was a big difference.
Then this happened.
Someone told me to change the miner, ohh, the miner, really???
Changed the ethminer from claymore, and VOILA, 29.75 MH/s, are you serious?
After al l that modding and adjusting the clocks forever and ever, the problem was so relatively simple, just changed the miner, and I’ve got only 1280W from the socket
By the way, my clocks are these:
Memory Clock: 2250
Core Clock: 1300
Power Tune: 3
Here is my rig. I am going to add another extra motherboard and on more PSU to the case, or I’ll cut the rig in half.
Hopefully, one day I will solve the ring error.
