I remember the first rig I built was when Ethereum was $10. Oh how long ago that seems! Lots of hours scouring the internet and I didn't really know what I doing. Eventually I built 8 and the house got way too hot! My power bill was over $1000 because the AC was on 24/7 to keep the family happy. To circumvent this, I decided to build a person mining room. A lot of people say it's a lost investment but I think of it as a hobby. People have their yachts, golf clubs, or guns. I have my mining rigs and they bring me a little bit of profit. It is definitely not a get rich scheme but it's very addictive. You can never have enough graphic cards!!
The best part of this was spending time with my father. He's the kind of person that saw what I was doing and was like, "I think we can do better". We worked long hours framing, running electrical wires, setting sheetrock, and wood floors. It was our first project together with lots of hiccups but I treasure the time and knowledge I gained from him. Cryptocurrency: bringing fathers and sons closer!
Here's some of the specs of the room: dedicated 320 amp service, 25 outlets with each outlet on a 20 amp breaker, 3 exhaust fans w/ one on a temperature control dial, 17,000 CFM with fans at max, all the fans are exhaust fans pulling the hot air out. If I could do it again, I would go 240 V. Much less current and easier on the lines. Also, I would add more outlets on the ceilings.
Just wanted to thank the community for all your knowledge and support. So many hours scouring forums and debugging but worth all the trouble. I know the room looks empty but I have lots of shelves to fill. Waiting on VEGA :)
