Mining CryptoCurrencies With Heat Produced By Human Bodies? The Matrix Is Here!

in mining •  7 years ago

A Dutch website called "Institute of Human Obsolence" announced one of the weirdest - and potentially disruptive - experiments in crypto currency I ever heard of: mining crypto-currencies with human body heat. I kid you not. I double checked and the info seems legit.

As you can see from the screenshot I took below, the message is not very welcoming, but yet, in a twisted way, very promising: "The Humans Are Becoming Obsolete".

So, what they did with these Matrix-like costumes was to harvest heat from human bodies, transform that heat into electricity and power some mining rigs with it. There were a total of 37 persons taking part into this experiment. The tokens mined were: Vertcoin, Startcoin, Dash, Litecoin, Lisk and Etereum. They generated a total of 16,594 coins, with a total of 127.212 miliwatts harvested. Biggest rewards come in the form of Vertcoin and Startcoin.

I still don't know what to think of it.

One one hand, this could definitely be a solution to the basic income problem, if every living being could generate some value just by being alive.

On the other hand, I can easily see this spiraling in a fight for resources.

And when the "resources" are actually human generated heat, well, things can get really nasty, really fast.

This ill be one of the strangest thing i heard about Cryptos. and trust me i heard a lot of wired stuff about cryptocurrency.

This is very interesting! Imagine if the computers that is fitted like it was clothing and barely even noticeable. Then humans can in theory pay for their living costs just by merely existing, add that to monetizing human data and we have a future that we just exist and everything we need we can pay for just by existing and then we can work for the sole purpose of having meaning and not bound by a rat race.

Now that is the kind of suit I wouldnt mind wearing to work. Maybe the more you workout the more energy you transfer to the suit

This! If only the late Jacque Fresco of the Venus Project could have seen this. I hope this gets to be developed by the right (and good) minds like Jacque , we would definitely have a bright future. UBI by just being you and your body heat. Damn it we are living in a very exciting times!

I have the same sentiments. Human greed have lead people to enslave its kin, if it turns out really bad then we are looking at factories of humans in suspended animation used to harvest/mine cryptos. (Although that scenario is very unlikely it is definitely a possibility.)

As if I didn't have better things to do than let my body getting used for heat... :'D

But looking at the rewards - that is really profitable. Too bad that this technique would def. get used by some extremists trying to profit from humans.

Just daze and strap them and voila - you have a human-miner...

Scary!

Well this isn't creepy at all /sarc

This is really getting weird.

OMG that is creepy! Why would they present humans as becoming obsolete if they want to use humans to power the mining?

What you should think of this is
... nuke them from orbit. And then, nuke them again to make sure.

Creating energy, specifically electricity or other motive forces, requires a difference in temperature. The higher the difference in temperature, the more efficient and easy it is to create power.

The human is not a good source of power. Further, the human body needs the heat and the electric energy running through it. Tapping off of that alters the body and decreases its functioning.

So, if they are using body temperatures to create electricity, they can do the same by putting whatever it is out in the sun light and get more electricity with the same stuff. It is actually one of the engineering problems, if ever solved, would change the world. To use low grade heat to produce electricity. (with something that doesn't cost more than you would ever get out of it.)

And, the name "Institute of Human Obsolescence" is abhorrent.
In order to think such stupidity, you must assume that humans are only on this planet to make things in factories.

or harness the current in the ground !

You know as with almost everything, there are two options:

  • if this is going to happen in a centralized world - scary!
  • if it is going to happen in a decentralized world - amazing! We could choose to literally make money in our sleep. Or all day, for that matter.

Now people will readily want to get sick and have fever because more the heat, more the money :D
Sick is the new trick :P

These are the wonders of internet technology. It's very powerful and can make lives much easier in future. A revolution is happening and we should be glad that we're part of it.

Great post @dragosroua.

Steem On!

just saw your app i relay like it.. and great article i am following and giving you a witness vote

Thanks, appreciate your support!

No way ! That many !? Screenshot of hashes or it didn't happened :O
Crazy, thanks for sharing

I think it is ridiculous :))

omg!!!!!!! is this possible..peope are so creative..i don't know how they even imagine of things like this..anyway great idea if we can achieve it :)thanks for sharing

At first I thought this was some kind of satire ... but after poking around their website and reading some of the media linked there, it appears that this is actually an art project. It certainly makes you think!

At first I thought this was some kind of satire ...

yes. me too. it's not.

Reminds me of that Black Mirror episode where people are rewarded for their exercise. Every exercise machine could be hooked up this way in order to provide a new source of income.

This is so shocking and is this is possible , it’s toetty scary
