I guess I should clarify something about something that I've been harping about while also examining what a lot of you have been harping about.
Tim Walz is the governor of a state that just made a decision that would absolutely put a woman in prison for up to a decade for presenting any weapon to deter a rapist. The Blevins decision involved a man with a deadly weapon who was defending himself against men with deadly weapons. He's serving seven to ten years for assault with a dangerous weapon. So, the language says that, if you're faced with a threat or serious bodily injury, you have to exhaust all retreat options before displaying any weapon, because all weapons are "dangerous" by definition.
Tim Walz's state would throw a woman in prison for seven or more years if she presented a taser or pepper spray to stop a rapist unless she exhausted all options to safely retreat. She wouldn't actually need to use the weapon. Simply showing it as a deterrent would land her in prison.
Still, I don't believe that the Harris/Walz ticket winning is going to result in Minnesota's Duty to Let Him Rape You law becoming national policy. I'm pretty sure that my state of Arizona is going to remain a Stand Your Ground state.
So, when I bring up this policy in Minnesota, I'm bringing it up out of concern for the people of Minnesota. I'm also bringing it up as a major philosophical flaw regarding both Walz and Harris. I'm not saying that the election going to them will turn the entirety of these United States into a Duty to Let Your Attacker Do What He Wants country.
Now that I've said that, can we all admit that there's zero evidence that a Trump/Vance win will result in a complete abortion ban that doesn't even include exceptions for rape?
Trump has even said the opposite. We also have had four years of Trump in which he didn't do that.
The overturning of Roe v. Wade didn't do that. There are plenty of states in this country that have more liberal access to abortion than most of Europe.
Most self-defense law is deferred to the states. Most abortion law is deferred to the states.
I'm actually factually correct that Walz's state passed a Duty to Be Raped decision.
None of you are factually correct that Vance ever presided over a Duty to Give Birth to the Rapist's Kid decision.
None of us would be correct in thinking that the vote going either way is going to result in these ideas becoming national law.
