I am a high school teacher in the capital city of my country. And it has given me the opportunity to interact with the great and mighty whose children I coach. Countless times, my students have confronted me, as their Government teacher, with questions such as:
- Isn't Trump a racist?
- Is he not a bigot?
- What do you think about his policies on Mexico, some Islamic countries etc?
I have always run into trouble of being accused of supporting Trump by my students. This is one out of many areas of disagreement I always have with my students.
Trump is not my president but the president of the most powerful country in the world. I may not be completely right. I have taken my time to analyze some of his policies and I felt he has the interest of his people at heart which was the reason they elected him. Donald Trump's number one contitutuency is United States of America. Hope we know? The world is secondary.
Can a reasonable politician fault the above assertion? We in Nigeria wish for a leader that will put Nigerians first in his decisions. Can it ever happen? We only hope.
I write this because of a post made by @sgtreport this morning, where Trump was helping a black policeman with his cap. I was touched. And I quickly said that I am vindicated. And that is the beginnig of my vindication. Those who considered Trump a racist may begin to have a rethink.
As for banning some countries, the 911 terrorist attack on American twin towers is still fresh in our mind. American economy had been suffering, and American has been parading herself as world police wasting its human and material resources on other countries security. All they get is criticism. Any time they make move to profit from the economy of countries they assisted, they are accused of having interest from day one. "America will always have interest. They don't do anything they will not benefit from", I have heard so many people said.
Today, America has a president that wants to look inward, people are crying wolf. Can America look inward for once? Can its foreign policy for once be in favour of American citizens? What is wrong with that? There are countries today that would make people to change their culture or religion, occupy other countries in the name of colonialism, if they occupy the position of America today. We all know that. We fear to say it.
America denies some people visa today. And so what? Is America the only country in the world? Why is everybody running to America? Could it be because America is peaceful and secured? what happened to our own countries? Why is it not peaceful and secured?
It is infortunate we set our countries on fire and turned out to be refugees. Someone will fault me, I know. We were not part, they will say, but we tacitly supported either by not speaking out when we ought to or praising them because we belong to the same region, tribe or ethnic group or religion.
We also set our countries on fire by embezzling and misappropriating public funds. You may fault me too that you have never. Yes. We have never participated, but might have supported either by not talking or by praising and giving chieftaincy titles to those who did.
Today, we want country were we will have peace of mind. The bigwigs in my country are lucky that Nigeria is not included in the list of banned countries, maybe not today. So they fan ember of war, divide people along ethnic and religious lines, steal public money and twart the effort of providing social amenities.
Like Falz, a Nigerian musician, I will only say to them, "weldone sir". Keep on making our country uninhabitable. You will soon succeed. Then you will need a peaceful country where you will have peace of mind.
Trump says, do not come. And he is tagged a racist. I do not buy that. Donald Trump has done good to the world by asking us to think home. How bad is it?
Thanks for reading my thought.
Don't pick on me, I only expressed my opinion. You can still express yours below.
I stand to be corrected.
