An Easy Way to Help Brand New Minnows

in minnowsupport •  7 years ago  (edited)

Lately, I've started trying to extend a helping hand to more minnows. I've created a standard cut and paste comment that I post in the comments of minnows I run across that are just getting started. I'm posting this guide up for anyone to use and modify as they will.

After posting the guide, I then modify it according to what I see on the minnow's profile- if I see they've already accomplished some items on the list, I delete those items. If I see that they have interests that might fit well with a more focused group like #steemstem, I go ahead and add that into the list of services they should check out.

Again, feel free to copy and paste this guide as you'd like, that's the main reason I'm posting it up. We need to actively start seeking out minnows to help them out rather than just letting them sink or swim and trying to find their own way around the platform. If anyone has any suggestions for making the guide better, definitely let me know, it would be much appreciated.

@Mountainwashere's Quick Minnow Guide:

Welcome to Steemit! It's got a steep learning curve, but it's worth it in the long run if you keep putting in the time! Just know that it will take quite a while before you start getting attention and followers. The secret to success? Keep posting high quality content regularly, and make sure to search out other people's posts, read them, and give relevant comments.

There are also a lot of really good resources out there for minnows (new users). You should check out the following:

@qurator
@thesteemengine
@originalworks
@steembasicincome

Tagging is extremely important. Always make sure to use all five possible tags, and to keep them relevant. You can always just tag something "blog" or "photography" or something else really general (so long as it's still relevant) to fill the quota if you need to- most of your tags should be established ones, though one or two less used ones are fine.

Always make sure to attach a photo to your posts! You should also have a finished profile: Write a description, add a profile picture and a banner- neither needs to be of you, necessarily, but you should have something- and set a website.

And, again, the biggest thing is just patience. Breakout successes are incredibly rare on Steemit- you've got to find your way there through perseverance and hard work. It takes time, but you'll eventually succeed if you put in the work.

Please feel free to repost this guide on the posts of other minnows you run into!

Good work, new users to the platform definitely could use some assistance and help getting started. By helping new users we are helping ourselves as well. The more users =, the bigger the community grows and the more profitable it becomes for all of us

Thanks!

Nice post. I've been on steemit for a while now but only recently decided I want to take it seriously as an income stream.
All These minnow support projects are hugely helpful since many new users are disheartened by the low rewards they receive and would likely leave the platform if there weren't support projects to show them there is in fact potential for earning here.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for reading! I hope something in here might turn out to be of assistance to you- and it would be great if you'd consider passing the advice on to minnows!

Very useful intro material for newcomers.

Do you think it would be worth adding anything about the importance of network and joining communities - particularly on Discord?

I thought about it, but it's already a bit long, amd they'd be introduced to discord through a couple of the services I mentioned, so I'm on the fence. What are your thoughts?

We start out as red fish/plankton. You have to get 1million vests before you can become a minnow. Isn't that crazy! Check out my post about how we all start out as plankton and then we get to grow. I learned about it from someone else. I had no idea. ;)

I didn't even start paying attention to my rep and voting power until the former was already in its 40s. (But then, I had an excellent steemit tutor in @kennyskitchen.)

Yea for you being a minnow. I am still 360,000something points away. Slowly but surely... ;) Yeah when I first came on, I used my upvote like a fb like. I put it everywhere. One of these days I'll get a slide vote!

It's pretty nice, but it can definitely lead to overthinking of your vote strength!

i am using three of them. They are good!

Nice, which ones?

Why on earth would you want to brand new minnows?

Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Ugh, that was terrible. (Though its technical execution was excellent.)

Thank you for this wonderful post! As a minnow myself I am struggling to have my post noticed, which in turn lead to low votes. Nonetheless I understand that perseverance is the key to success, so I'll try my best and not give up. Again, thank you and happy holiday to you.

Happy holidays to you as well! I hope some of the stuff in here comes in handy, and please consider passing it on to new minnows you run across!

Certainly, I've resteemed your post so that my followers can see it too. Thanks again

Hello :)

Thank you for this great article - it explains a lot.
It is simple, but consisting most valuable tips for minnows post I have seeing yet.

Posting and commenting with high quality, attentive content are the main sources of success - the problem is - maybe not enough of newbies (including me) want to learn it fast ;)

It is great, that you allow other users to copy your post's text and use it in their posts - that is great.
I was wondering if you have any tips on good article title construction - I think that is important too.
Checking the links will be my next step - for sure.

Thank you for this post, which had to cost you work to do using your knowledge, skills and intelligence - good job and keep it up.

Peace :)

Peter.

PS: May I resteem it in my feed, please?

I'm glad you like it, and I'd be super appreciative if you resteemed it in your feed!

You are welcome - it is your great job, which pushed me towards it.

Resteem done and I am looking for more from you in the future (pity, that this "my feed" notification numbers don't appear for me anymore - do you have the same problem)?

Yeah, I'm not getting notifications half the time either.

I don't get them at all - use to have for few days and not anymore. I need to find an answer to it, will let you know if I find out.

I'm a minnow (still) and I appreciated the information in your comment on my stop. I have also gained guidance from the @minnowsupportproject :) Continue to post great content & Steem On!

I'm glad I could help!

I'm only a month in so by no means an expert but I have a list of writers I have found useful so far and tend to try and refer anyone I see struggling with the concepts through to those sites.

Good on you!

THis is a greta post and a good template for guidance for new users

Thanks!

Your welcome

Great idea! I try to at least welcome a couple new members a day, but I do not have anything like this set up as of yet. This is definitely something worth doing though, and I think we can make it even better if we all work together on it.

Definitely! And feel free to copy and paste this greeting as well!

Thanks for the pointers!

Of course!

As a minnow i very much appreciate posts like this.

Thanks!
