Anti-Abuse Team Weekly Report #36
Tuesday - May 22nd - 2018
Super late this time around, but I am going to blame summer and the need to get out of the house. Either way, this update is going to show the earliest indications that we are going to be fixing our rampant spam, content-quality, and bot abuse problem once and for all.
The details of this weeks prune of the member-list -
- 19556 Members before this week's prune was run. (926 new accounts since last week)
- 30 Day Prune has removed 314 dead accounts. (118 less were removed this Prune.)
- This leaves our count at 19242 Members after the prune.
- ~1300 Peak Concurrent users this week. (No change.)
Updated stats on Bans and Blacklist -
- 3809 Discord bans (+380 new from previous)
- 4653 accounts in total are now Blacklisted by @minnowsupport (+507 from previous!)
The Charts
Member count data over time:
This shows the trend of members gained over time. I use the number of users counted after each purge each week.
Blacklist Counts by Type:
This gives a breakdown of the major categories we list an account under in our Blacklist.
In summary:
Everything seems to have slowed down, except for our enforcement and methods. Preparation for a major change to enforcement has caused more accounts to be looked at, resulting in a big increase in the new bans/mutes this time. This upcoming change might mean we have to re-evaluate the frequency of reports at that point.
A quick review of things that get you blacklisted:
- A single image or even multiple images, with very little text or only a basic bit of information with it.
- An embedded YouTube or DTube video with zero additions to the post that provide value.
- Attempting to gain multiple upvotes outside our 1 per cool-down by any means.
- Any major violation of our community guidelines and rules. (This usually has to do with treatment of other users on the platform.)
Not all of these result in a ban from Discord since we want you to learn and improve.

This makes me happy! Good job @discordiant!
Btw. could you tell me how hard it is to trace the multi-account-circle-jerkers here on Steemit? Be cause this is definitly what Steemit needs in the long run (like anticipating future trackers for 50 or 100+ multi-account-circle-jerkers)!

The difficulty lies entirely in the methods they use. Sadly, I really can't lay out specifics. It could hamper our ability to detect them if I gave examples.
For the most part, it's been fairly easy though.

Think of it as a teaser trailer. One that doesn't spoil anything at all. We will release info when it makes sense to do so.

How dare you spend time in the real world instead of compiling this list for steemit!

Thanks. There's been a lot of abuse of the introduceyourself tag lately, too. I've been flagging some of it. It's been of two types in recent days:
Posting a single picture of a hot female with little or no text. Obviously somebody who signed up a bunch of multiple scam-purposed fake people and is using each account to try to maximize initial post rewards.
Single account posting tons of short little nothing posts in "introduceyourself."
Thanks for all you are doing.
P.S. What can you do for a hopeful newb looking for news about bot control?...especially PAID upvoting bots and users who SLAM you when you complain about it. TIA...
