What to worry about in your first Three Days of Steemit!!

in minnowsupportproject •  7 years ago  (edited)

Here’s everything I learned that is essentially for getting you going in your first week of Steemit! This place is a beautiful community, but it is untamed, decentralised, and wild! In the very best way that is though!

DAY ZERO.png

If you were anything like me then you actually found Steemit before knowing anything about Steem, so you’re reading everything you can right now! You're going to need to register for a Steem account. This is frustrating, as it can take anywhere from 24hours to a few days for you to get your account approved. Your fingers and itching to get posting, I know! So while you’re waiting read through some of the already awesome Getting Started posts!

Before you get any further because I know this is what you CAME for:

The absolute MINIMUM amount of time you can get "REAL MONEY" from Steemit is 7 DAYS!

It takes 7 Days for your first Steem to be released into your Wallet, and then you have to convert it to Bitcoin or something similar. This isn’t easy to understand, and the currency side of things is the main thing new people struggle with. So don't stress in the early days!

In reality, you don't need to worry about it straight away! Unless you BLOW UP with your first post or are a celebrity of some sort (shout out to Jeff Berwick haha), you aren’t going to make enough to bother with this process from your Day 1 posts.

The thing is, you WILL make money here, but there’s a time and effort commitment. If that’s not for you, then stop here! If you want to join a rewarding and awesome community, keep reading!

Join:

Steemit.chat

You register here with a totally different user account from the STEEM one you have just signed up for, so you can get onto the chat. Good idea is to use the same username so people will recognise you on Steemit.

While you’re waiting to get approved check out the #introduceyourself tag and have a look at a few of the trending posts. Start writing your introduction post while you’re waiting so you are ready to go!

Join Discord

What’s Discord? Here's the link to the PAL channel! It’s a Real Time Chat application (think AOL, MSG Messenger, Slack, IRC), it’s background is in gaming. A lot of the conversations and friendships are made in the chat rooms. My experience so far is that the Discord Chat rooms are more active than Steemit.chat.

DAY ZERO (1).png

Woohoo, you’ve finally got your account approved and you’re ready to go!

PULL THE TRIGGER ON YOUR INTRODUCTION POST! It’ll feel good and you can start your constant cycle of refreshing the page and you’ll get lots of welcomes and warm fuzzies, it feels good! This will give you experience in replying, you'll start following people, and there will be some people that post helpful tips in the comments for you!

You're officially a part of the Steemit Community, yay!

You are a MINNOW

Steemit uses a ranking system and what is often called "newb" in other places, is named Minnow here! It's a cute as baby fish! Naaaww.

Read other users posts, comment on them, find people in the tags that interest you that you should follow!

DAY ZERO (2).png

So you're getting a handle on things now because you've been on Steemit all day (sorry day job!).

It's time to join the #MinnowSupportProject

This is an awesome initiative and community. It's all about helping users like you who are new, @minnowsupport is where it's at!

You've already joined the PAL Discord chat, chatted to a few people. Here's the time to politely ask someone to help you out with a few SBD so you can register for all the bots and things you need to do to join the Minnow Support Project!

Don't just spam these chats, they are real people on the other end, they don't owe you anything, but there are so many supportive people, so just being a friendly chatty person will help a lot!

You need to sign up to two other external sites. You really should get a password manager at this point, as there's a lot of external Steem stuff you can sign up for, and you want to make sure your passwords are secure!

It feels scary giving your "keys" to these sites, but it's okay. They're trusted by some of the most well-known members of this community.

Here is a really good guide from @rhondak to Registering for the Minnow Support Project, the video slide show at the end has every step in there step by step!

DAY ZERO (3).png

Today's the day you've got the hang of things and you should start learning more about STEEM, Steemit, Blockchain and all the power levels! There are already heaps of great resources out there that you should check out!

Here is a massive post with lots of details.

This post was whipped up in an hour for @aggroed and @acidyo in a contest that look place over in the PAL channel. Please give me feedback and make sure everything checks out, it's also the first writing contest I've entered here on Steemit, so funny it should be about using it! Thanks so much

Thanks mate appreciate it! I think so many people get bogged down with trying to understand the "money" side of things but it will come a lot more natually after at least a few days of using the site.

It is nice to see that there are life jackets such as yourself and others in this vast ocean who are ensuring the survival and success of the newborn minnows. It is just hard to focus in on just ONE area of interest, since so many interesting people and concepts are showcased here. Please continue with the colorful commentary.

Thank you for the descriptive comment @sirwin ! :)

Thanks go out to you for being the wordsmith that you are.

Nice post for all of us who're still little Minnows ;)
Can you explain this part, please "It takes 7 Days for your first Steem to be released into your Wallet, and then you have to go through a 13 week process to Power Down. " What does it mean?
Thanks!
