Bitcoin is making some big news this week! The world is hearing about Bitcoin because of the HBO Hacking and Bitcoin Ransom attacks, ...because of the Fidelity account connection to Bitcoin (via Coinbase, of course), and ...because of the news that Russia & Putin want to overtake China in terms of Global Dominance, of SHA256 Bitcoin Mining; But in the traditional parts of the Financial Technology industry, outside the world of cryptocurrency and Blockchain Technology, the computer networks for the SEC's Financial Systems are at unnecessary risk of compromise, AND may jeopardize the availability of information residing and processed by the SEC.
As this "congressional watchdog report" from the "Government Accountability Office" (GAO) details, The Securities And Exchange Commission, which is Wall Street's top U.S. regulator, needs to protect and secure its data networks, or it's controls over it's Financial Systems (and data) will continue to be at risk.
So, as most people are hearing about Bitcoin, either again or for the first time, DUE TO HBO HACKING or WannaCry MALWARE attacks, is it a reasonable concern to wonder about the "Network Security" of the SEC's financial systems? And in an interconnected financial network, could a hypothetical Cyber Attack or Banking Virus on the SEC spread to other Central Bank computers, crippling our current Payment Networks?
