LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ) - The state of Michigan will begin accepting applications for medical marijuana businesses on Friday.
Going through the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, they will be taking applications for all license types: grower, processor, secure transporter, provisioning center and safety compliance facility licenses.
Applicants will need to fill out the 47-page application, which was put up online last week. The state says many of the application forms will need to be printed, notarized and uploaded as part of the application process.
There is also a $6,000 application fee which will have to be made online by credit card or electronic check.
An applicant may finish the application online, then print the acceptance page and bring it with them to pay the fee in person at the Ottawa Building in downtown Lansing beginning at 8 a.m. Friday.
Paper applications will also be accepted in person beginning at 8 a.m. Friday and through mail or delivery service.
There are two steps to the application process:
Step one - Pre-Qualification: This step includes a full background check of the application and other supplemental applicants. During this step, you have to disclose anyone and any business with an indirect or direct ownership interest. Before pre-qualification materials can be reviewed, you must pay the $6,000 application fee in person or online. It may be completed before an application has a physical location.
Step two - License Qualification: This step requires information specific to the physical location of the business, and which type of facility license you are applying for. If you already have a location secured, you can submit the pre-qualification and license qualification materials at the same time.
Once step two is completed, the application will go to the Medical Marihuana Licensing Board which will determine whether or not to approve the application.
If they approve it, the applicant will have to pay a regulatory assessment for each license and then the license will be issued.
