What if you went missing?

My boss sent me this article since I have family in Central America. Last year alone the federal government through the health and human services office lost 1,475 immigrant children that were placed in temporary care. These vulnerable children were parts of families fleeing violence and economic chaos and many have landed in the hands of human traffickers. Others were sexually assaulted or sent into forced labor on farms. So from the 7,635 that were placed with families with no background checks, about 20% went missing over the course of a year... that's a hell of a shitty percentage.

I don't want to get into the whole argument over immigration or having or not having a border wall and all that nonsense. I will just suggest that as long as staggering inequality and exploitation occurs all over the world, and more people have access to modern communication and transportation, of course there are going to be people everywhere around the world trying to get from poor countries to rich countries, from oppression to freedom, from the wrong side of the tracks to the greener grass. The question is, what is anyone going to do about it? Walls, gates, fences, barbed wire... they don't work. Until we figure out how to make real investment, real growth, real opportunity, and real sustainable development for cultures and peoples everywhere, more and more will continue to get lost in this disturbed world.
