In September of 2013, two submerged cars were found in Foss Lake, Oklahoma. The cars contained the remains of at least six people who had been missing for many years. These missing persons were found as a result of a training exercise involving sonar.
Also in September of 2013, the remains of two more people were found in a submerged car in a South Dakota creek. These two young woman had also been missing for many years. This car was found as a result of drought which had made the creek level very low thus revealing the car.
There is no doubt in my mind that there are a number of other missing people across the nation who have met a similar fate. Perhaps a few of these people died as a result of “foul play” but I suspect overwhelmingly these have been accidents.
Late at night or in bad weather a car can run off the road into a creek, lake, river or other body of water. A person could fall asleep at the wheel or have a flat tire and run off the road into a large creek. The occupants would quickly drown if unable to get out. If the water were deep or murky the car, and the deceased within, might never be found.
Intoxicated teenagers partying near a waterway, in a moment of confusion, could easily run a car into a lake or river. A parked car could be put into neutral by accident and quickly roll into a waterway. There are a number of scenarios where confusion, bad weather, malfunctions, drugs and alcohol, etc. could lead to a tragedy of this type.
Are there other deceased people in a submerged car somewhere yet to be found? What do you think?
