My Steemit Mission StatementsteemCreated with Sketch.

If you don't know what direction you're headed in then every time you are presented with a decision the answer will be unclear. A simple and meaningful way to set your direction is write a clear Mission Statement. Nearly every single business out there has one of these. And, believe it or not, your blog here is also a business. Your followers are customers that pay for your content with their upvotes, resteems, and attention.

So, I've been here since September. That means 8 months. This account is nearing $10k, and I'll surpass that in 6 days when I drop a BTC worth of steem into this account. I have over 800 followers, which puts me in the top 150 most followed authors. I have over 1000 posts. I've built steemd once already, so I'm getting some programming experience. I have several whales that follow me. I think people would recognize my name in the discord channel. Someone even called me Steemit famous. I think I finally have a real sense of this place. I think it's time to clarify my mission here.

Mission comes from purpose

And purpose comes from passion. I work in higher education. I really love young people. I want to help them. I'm particularly aware of the fact that I've been blessed by having an upper middle class upbringing, which has included really fantastic schools. I think it's a great travesty how shitty our education system is and how many of the university students I've taught over the years have been woefully under prepared. Also, when they leave school they are in crippling debt.

So, I devote my life to education elsewhere. I plan to do it here too. And I'm not just talking about courses and formal shit. I really mean about learning. Yes the intellectual light bulbs getting illuminated on a kid are awesome, but I really like the personal connection of when a student learns a life lesson too.

What about the platform?

In my non-higher education life I've come to realize that the world is run by immoral banksters. Every second of every day when I work, pay bills, use credit cards, and all this financial stuff I'm supporting the thing that gives them power. The ability to create $16T overnight out of thin air is an incredible power, and it's one they use maliciously.

So, I like steemit. I finally have an option for how I want to engage in commerce that allows me sleep at night knowing that these actions don't contribute to violence. I think Steemit is one amazing option to throw sand in the eyes of the powers that be and help turn the tide to a better world. I have issues with this place, like the distribution, but I'm planning on helping it grow and spread. I think it's one of the best tools in my toolbox right now and I'm grateful for that.

We all have the spark of god within us

I'm a man of science, but at some point the amazing nature of universe has called me to a spiritual place too. Call it god, call it love, call it the force, or call it the great pumpkin spirit. We all have it inside of us. Violence done to another is very much violence done to oneself. We're all creator gods locked in meat sacks, and I'm honestly not even convinced that's there's more than one entity on this Earth with a touch of essence spread into each vessel. So, I want peace for all. Abundance for all. And Liberty for all. We're all one... what else should we want? That's it.

So, how does this translate to a mission statement?

As a blogger on steemit I intend to spread peace, abundance, and liberty. I'll help educate people on this platform in terms of the technical use, social use, and values embodied by it's community. I will help spread this platform, the knowledge of it's users, and the power of it's currency beyond it's current capacity. I'll grow as a an author to inspire other writers, to show them the ropes, and create a warm welcome whenever possible. I'll grow as a person and continue to develop programming skills so that I can contribute to more aspects of this platform. And I'll do my best to give back more to this platform than it gives to me.

In the next month or two I'm going to try a witness run. Hopefully you'll support me there too.

I'm incredibly grateful to you, and I'll try not to let you down.

I'm touched by how many people I get to interact with here. I'm learning as much as I can as quickly as I can. I hope I can support you in some way as I know you're helping me.

That's awesome! Doin' my best!

I'm still trying to find my sea legs, but I hope to help the platform thrive as well.

Great mission statement. I'm here to learn mostly, and to teach what I can!! So thanks for bring inspiring and teaching!

You're welcome. I hope you get something good from it!

Great post and a wonderful mission statement!

Thanks!

You're doing a great job. Thank for your the post!

It was easier for me "back in the days" (7 months ago or so). Nowadays, I'm struggling more to reach my audience. I mean, I'm not near you in terms of followers, but I still have more than 400, but get only a fraction of eyeballs on my posts. No matter what time I'm posting. - Any tips you can share? :D

Just at a glance you have a lot of video game stuff on there. I'm not sure that and the other things are meshing. I also don't know how much you are in contact with your audience. I spend a bunch of time typing responses to folks and trying to interact wtih them on their posts. Are you doing the same? It's a 2 way street.

Thank you for your response. - And yeah, I do have gaming related content. The fact is, that I started out with freelancing content, as I am a freelancer. However, gaming has always been one of my biggest passions and lately, I decided to do a "180 turn-around" and start sharing gaming related content. Perhaps not instead of freelancing content, but still share it. - Regarding my followers; I respond to replies I get on my content and recently I've also started to focus more to interact with others, by commenting on their posts too. - So all in all, I'd say I'm doing what I can, more or less, and I've tried to post at different hours several times. However, I still get rather poor results in terms of views. Sure, upvotes & rewards are obviously also interesting but that part is for later. I'm just trying to get more eyeballs on my content for starters. - I will obviously continue to do so, but it would be awesome to get some tips, if there's any tips that can be shared. :D

  • Thanks, I appreciate it!

I have been on here about 3 weeks, and you have consistently written excellent articles!
I envy your skills and admire your mind,we seem to have a general agreement on what I have seen.
I am really trying to learn html and css so I can try and contribute. I love the way you are doing it!
and I see no reason not to vote for you as a witness!
looking forward to more of your articles, and humor!
namaste!

@aggroed I wanted to thank you for the information and knowledge you share with us in every post you share. I have had the leadership role a few times in the past within the church so I know a bit of how it feels to both have the passion and knowledge to share with the rest. I can't wait to see what purpose I'll have on this platform in the sense of being a blessing to everyone on here.

Btw I'm posting from my phone and its uncomfterble and I think I accidentally flag this post earlier, i
I dont know if it stayed flagged or not but just letting you know if it shows up it was an accident sir.

Thanks boss. I appreciate the kindness. I don't see a flag!

Thank God, I was so worried I was freaking out trying to make sure I could excuse myself in time just in case.😌

Thanks for the insight. It is interesting to see how many of the things you mentioned in this post actually resonate with me. You and I have many of the same beliefs. I'm looking forward to more of your posts.

:)

I am new here, so still learning the platform. I have read two articles of yours now and I just wanted to let you know that I like your writting style. It's very easy to connect to. I followed you and I look forward to reading more of your stuff. ♡ ~ Heather

U da best! Thanks a ton. Welcome to Steemit!

Thank You @aggroed! You sound southern. Are you?

Sorta. Born and raised in New England, but I did a ton of school in Texas.

Kind of the same. I am from NY but have now lived in Florida half my life. I worked with a "good Ole southern boy" who would always say " you da best"when ever I got him what he wanted....Your reply just reminded me of him. It is kind of amazing at the dialect and saying you pick up living in different areas. I used to say "You guys" all the time no matter which sex I was speaking too....now being in the south for so long it is "Ya'll" and "fixin to" all day long. I dont think I have picked up that southern drawl though. haha. Still sound like a northerner when I am mad!
