This is the kind of thing that happens when the electorate elects legislators that have (at best) an 8th grade level of reading comprehension.

The Missouri House of Representatives has introduced a bill that would (ostensibly) require any food with a GMO ingredient or any meat from an animal that was vaccinated with an mRNA-based vaccine to be prominently labeled as a “Gene Therapy Product”.

The bill is, as you would expect, wholly scientifically illiterate. (And you know without looking which party is sponsoring the bill). As an aside, the bill is so steeped in whaarglebaargle that it would require labeling all food as a “Gene Therapy Product”. (Because all food contains genetic material)

Parents, we are well into the 21st century. I’m begging you to raise children for whom basic scientific literacy is as important as the ability to read and write. That value is unlikely to be instilled in school (no matter which state you live in) and is something you will have to do personally.

In the 21st century, in a modern Western nation that hypothetically has universal education, how does a bill like this even come up for a vote??
