In Search for True Identity of @GrumpyCat

The story of a search in Steem Chain

After discovering the mysterious 200k SP delegation of @MisterDelegation to @checkthisout ( @grumpycat's main account), I had written an Open Question to @MrDelegation post, looking for a reply of at least one question.

Who is @GrumpyCat and and why did @MrDelegation delegate SP to him 200kSP for one week.

The only reply to the question I asked was an illuminating! one by @GrumpyCat.

Why am I searching for the true identity of @GrumpyCat? What's in it for me?

As most of you have realized, @GrumpyCat seems to be following a code that is truth for him zealotly.
On his quest, hiding behind the mask of the cat, he is not listening to any arguments, even not talking.

@zipporah - the ziplomat - invited him to a live panel on Discord but the reply was basic as always :

she has a very well written post on this

Only maybe if we would reveal his true identity, the active account, he may be persuaded to participate to such a live panel and we might have a chance to talk with the man behind the cat mask.

How anonymous is @AnonSteem

@checkthisout is an account that is purchased from @anonsteem.
This means that, someone should have sent some money to @anonsteem at the day, close to time that @checkthisout account is created.

A good way to start is finding the exact time @checkthisout account is created.

@Steemd is a good place to start.
looking at the link : https://steemd.com/@checkthisout?page=9 we can read the following data.

So the account is created on 2017-11-10 20:43:45

Learning this, I decided to check all the transfers that is done to @anonsteem on this day.
The account creation should be slightly ( approximately 2 minutes ) after transfer is achieved.

@steemdb is a very good tool for this.

Checking all the transfers with this link : https://steemdb.com/@anonsteem/transfers i have reached to the below result :

Since the transfer should have been done before account opening, we had 5 accounts that would possibly be @checkthisout ( i was so noob to think so, which will come later)

One name flashing : @zeartul, the old owner of @bellyrub bot whose account was allegedly hacked...

Would @grumpycat be infact @zeartul? Would he be in an act of revenge?

Well, to much reason to suspect him, he would have money, he would have motivation but no facts and data.
I had to find exactly which other accounts @anonsteem have created this day and match it with the transfers.

This way, we could reach who created @checkthisout realy.

Some scripting begins...

Checking through steem.js API library, discussing with @We-Resist bot developer @r351574nc3, the following script is found :

steem.api.getAccountHistory(account, from, limit, function(err, result) {
console.log(err, result);
});

This way we can get to the account history with all the transactions.
The confusing part is the FROM. We thought that this is the DATE but as we put the DATE we got parse error.
It is obviously , FROM is not DATE.

Thanks to @yabapmatt, the maker of famous SteemBotTracker he was online on discord and he corrected my mistake.
FROM is not time but it is transaction number.
Since the transactions start from "0" he recomended me to put "-1" and get the 10 000 results.

At the end the script look like this :

steem.api.getAccountHistory('anonsteem', -1, 10000, function(err,result) {
console.log(err,result);
});

which would give us the first 10 000 transaction details to and from @anonsteem.

And it worked!

Now we can see the details of transfers.

This is the details of the Steem transfer of @zeartul to @anonsteem

and this is the details of the account created right after the transfer made.

It was not @checkthisout, but another name...

Here comes the frustration

@Zeartul, I owe you an open apology for thinking that you would have been @GrumpyCat.

But who was @checkthisout then?

I found the transaction that he was created.

There was no transaction of STEEM to @anonsteem at the time of this account creation!

Possible?
Yes... thanks to the experienced people in The-Resistance discord, i am awakend that STEEM is not the only way to buy account from @anonsteem.
If you buy the account with BTC or LTC you are not visible in the steem chain since the transfer is not done to @anonsteem but to a BTC or LTC wallet directly.

And, @GrumpyCat was clever (in an evil way! ) enough to keep the anonimity to the maximum limit.
He either paid by BTC or LTC directly to the wallet.

Lesson learned : If you want to be really anonymous at your account, pay with BTC or LTC to anonsteem!

Questions are still open!

  • Why did @misterdelegation gave 200kSP delegation to @checkthisout (@grumpycat)?
  • Is @GrumpyCat a shark put in the fish pool to keep the fishes active?
  • Is he a rule enforcer put in the system instead of directly putting the rules?
  • Are we a part of an experiment that we don't know?
  • Is The Resistance in fact resisting an operation of Steemit Inc?

I hope we will find a better answer than a simple "PING!"

@GrumpyCat,we are not resisting your cause.

It is only your tactics WE-RESIST!

I believe we are currently part of a failed experiment. Not really failed, but progressing far more slowly than anticipated. Grumpy is a cattle prod, using pain to get us to react in a way that he feels is in our best interest. It is a direction in which we would probably go, eventually, but he wants us to go there now.

Are you mentioning something like a minnow&dolphins syndicate with elections, delegates, votings and requests from whales?
That has the power to go to strike... Wow that's utopic :)

Not really. Allow me to give a parable:

Picture you're an animal rights activist. You come upon a herd of buffalo in a large pin. Believing they should be free to roam in the wild and control their own fate, you aim to free them. Freeing them doesn't necessarily mean that you are saving them. The wilderness is a dangerous place and they will have to adapt in order to thrive in their new freedom.

So you open the pin. They stand there. A few of them edge towards the opening, and stay outside of the pin for a night or two, but then come back to the pin for food and protection. You realize that they are raised this way and that they won't leave unless forced. So you get a cattle prod and start pushing them out of the opening and into the wild. You force them to adapt. You force them to realize their strength as a herd. You let them teach themselves how to survive in the wild.

Eventually, you stick a bull with the cattle prod and he responds by kicking you in the chest. You hope you've done enough to keep the herd from simply returning to the pin for protection. You hope you've taught them to be free.

  • Grumpy is the cattle prod
  • whoever controls him is the activist
  • Steemians in general are the herd
  • We, the resistance, are the bull

Too much heaven in your mind :)
(say it with the melody of "heaven in their minds" - the Jesus Christ rock opera )

Edit: I took off the Jesus thing since my humor is often lost on many people. The waters don't need to be muddied any more tha they already are.

LOL. You think the Jesus thing was a bit much?

But seriously, do you understand what I am trying to say?

I do indeed..but i still believe this is too much poetry for a bully like @grumpycat.
The facts are generally colder and always related with money.

Well, I think that is certainly the case. If you look at his daily take.

I think people should themselves stop using the bots here on this platform. It is worthless anyway. There is no ROI. Even if you accept the negative ROI hoping that the earning is going to happen through upvotes after advertisements, then also it is not going to happen. I have used these bots on 3 of my post. None got upvotes even after using the bots. The upvotes received in first few hours of posting are final.

I think one should not use bots unless he or she is posting something that is definitely going to make people upvote. It's good for visibility but is not going to earn money even after visibility. This is so because it happens rarely.

As far as grumpy cat is concerned he accuses other's of reward pool rape, but he himself abuses the pool more than anybody else.

I appreciate the work you have put to find out the real man behind grumpy cat. He clearly need unmasking.

I proved the same with the bots on many trials and calculations mobile writer.
For the pool rape, I didn't make the calculation and trial yet.
Therefore, I can not have a clear view on it, only mist...

Thank you.
