Fantasy Baseball Intro

in mlb •  8 years ago

I am a huge fan of fantasy baseball and the MLB as a whole. Baseball has been my life since day one and playing competitive fantasy baseball with friends is how I stay in the loop of all the information around the league. It is very useful for staying up-to-date with current baseball stats while also being able to share this information with friends in a fun and rewarding manor. I am in five fantasy leagues, all with entry fees and cash prizes. In this article I will show my current rosters, while in future posts I will elaborate on my fantasy teams, what's going on around the MLB, share opinions on who's hot and who's not, and anything else baseball related.

Also, I am a huge Met's fan! #LGM

TEAM #1 : Siberian Tigers (BackDoorSlutz League)

I created this league about 6 years back with thirteen other friends to create a 14-team keeper category based ESPN fantasy baseball league and it's still going strong. Over the years we have upped the entry fee to $100 per team with potential winnings of over $1000. Going into this season i kept Paul Goldschmidt, Yoenis Cespedes, Francisco Lindor, Daniel Murphy, Andrew McCutchen, and Jason Kipinis. So far so good, I am in 3rd place and producing strong offensive and pitching numbers.

Team #2 : LILY IS MALIBU'S MOST WANTED (CoastToCoast League)

This team is named after my cat, Lily. It is a 14 team ESPN category league put together by my CT native, Cali living buddy, comprised of people from both California and Connecticut.

Team #3 : Manny the Great (PinStripesAndRoses League)

This is a 10 team espn category league I have been in over the past couple years. I was invited by a good friend of mine who was invited himself by a work friend, thus I know only one other member in this league.

Team #4 : NDRE Dat Nigga (TheNightsWatch League)

This is another 14 team espn category league (Game of Thrones themed league name) put together this year by a friend who wanted to start a less serious fantasy baseball league so that some of our friends could be eased into the fantasy baseball process without having to pay a hefty entry fee.

Team #5 : Don't Mind If I Do (BraggingRights)

This is another 14 team category keeper league except it is on Yahoo. I am currently the defending champion in this league, looking to defend my throne.

Ball so Hard University all day, fantasy baseball is life

very well put... it is life

I've got a few leagues setup in Yahoo. They are 3 setup as head to head 5x5. It's more fun playing people head to head compared to the overall season rotisseries.

Out of the 3, my best one so far is the one where I focused on BA, steals and closers. My theory was that winning saves, ERA and WHIP each week was 3 easy wins if I've got 6 of the best closers. Then steals is an easy one if you focus on getting 3 of the best base stealers. Now, BA is the trickiest one, but I tried to focus on people that would bat in the high 200's low 300's. So far, I'm 2nd in that league with this strategy.

It's my first year playing Fantasy Baseball, so I took a different strategy with each of my teams to test what works for next season.

Have you seen this website called, http://closermonkey.com/? They send out daily emails and update daily to let you know updates on closers. It's a good resource if you haven't seen it yet!

Yeah all of my leagues are head to head, some are 5x5 categories and a couple are 6x6. As for strategy, I usually go offense heavy, trying to get one ace and fill in with a bunch of average pitchers, most of which I pick up off free agency as they go and if they stay hot, I keep them on the team. Then i'll make sure to get at least two solid closers or some of the best non-closer relievers in the game (ex. Delin Betances, Chris Devinsky). That closermonkey site looks cool ill definitely use that throughout the season.. THANK YOU! You said this is your first year of fantasy baseball, were you previously familiar with the names around the league?? Also, look forward to chatting more baseball.

Not really. I just did some research before the season and used a few different site's estimates to come up with consensus estimates that I used to formulate a team. I love numbers, so I usually geek out on that part.
