It took 160 games to decide the two American League Wild Card teams, but it was well worth it for the Oakland Athletics and the Tampa Bay Rays. They’ll meet this Wednesday at the Coliseum to determine who will move on to face the league-leading Houston Astros in the AL Division Series. ESPN will have the first pitch at 8:09 PM ET.

The A’s have yet to announce their starting pitcher at press time, although rumor has it that Sean Manaea (1.21 ERA) will get the nod. Manaea was expected to miss all of 2019 after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum, but instead, he made his debut on September 1 and led Oakland to victory in four of his five starts, driving the Under to a 4-1 record in the process.

Charlie Morton (3.05 ERA) has already been named the starter for Tampa Bay. This has been Morton’s best season since he turned pro in 2008; the Rays went 22-11 in his 33 starts with the total split down the middle at 16-16-1. That includes a 1-1 record against the A’s, although Morton allowed only one run on six hits over a combined 13.1 innings of work.

MLB Odds: Rays-A’s in AL Wild Card Game

They’re two of the best teams in the majors, but the Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays will have to settle for playing in Wednesday’s American League Wild Card game. First pitch from the Coliseum is at 8:09 PM ET on ESPN.

Charlie Morton (3.05 ERA) is projected to start for Tampa; it’s unofficial at press time, but Sean Manaea (1.21 ERA) is rumored to be Oakland’d choice after making his 2019 debut in early September and leading the A’s to four wins in his five starts. Morton allowed one run over 13.1 innings in his two games against Oakland.
