One of baseball’s classic rivalries resumes this Thursday when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the San Francisco Giants, beginning at 10:09 PM ET on ESPN. This will be the first matchup for both teams after the All-Star break; the Giants lead the season series 3-2, with the home team winning each time.
These two California (and formerly New York) clubs were locked in a heated battle for National League West supremacy last year, with the Giants eventually snapping LA’s streak at eight division titles. But the Dodgers are well on top of the standings heading into the break, while San Francisco try to move up from third place and into NL Wild Card contention. Injuries to the Giants’ rotation have kept this team from being all it can be – and their list grew by one last week when Carlos Rodon was put in sick bay. Rodon will have to miss the All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium with a blood blister and a split nail; the hope is he’ll be ready for action once play resumes, but for now, Rodon joins Anthony DeSclafani (ankle) and Matthew Boyd (elbow) on the sidelines, with neither of those two starters due back anytime soon.
