MLB Odds: Yankees Host Jays on Friday

in mlb •  5 years ago

In their first game after the MLB’s All-Star festivities, the Toronto Blue Jays will need to get off to a running start against the AL-leading New York Yankees. For some Jays, the All-Star break is a welcome pause in an arduous baseball schedule. One player who will be thankful for the rest is injured ace, Marcus Stroman. Stroman was selected to make his first All-Star appearance this year, but opted not to pitch in the game due to a pectoral strain that he suffered the week prior. Stroman is expected to be back to full strength after the break and pitching in the series opener against the Yankees on Friday.

Stroman’s All-Star game replacement, Masahiro Tanaka, is expected to get the ball on Friday for New York. Tanaka has pitched at least six innings in each of his 10 previous starts, and the Yankees have won four consecutive games when the veteran got the ball. Part of that success has been due to the tremendous run support that Tanaka receives. New York has scored seven or more runs in three of his last four starts.

Toronto won their first game against Tanaka back in June by a score of 4-3, so they’ll be keen to find a way to earn a second straight win against the Yankees’ crafty righty. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM ET, so be sure to tune in for all of the action.

MLB Odds: Blue Jays’ Schedule Resumes in New York After All-Star Game

The Toronto Blue Jays completed the unofficial first half of the MLB season with a 34-57 record. And while their playoff hopes have been cut short, they still have relevant games to play following the All-Star break. The first of which will take place this Friday when the Jays visit Yankee Stadium for the first of three games.

While Marcus Stroman’s status remains unknown following an injury to his left pectoral, the Jays’ ace is expected to get the ball to open the series against veteran righty Masahiro Tanaka. The Jays have already beaten Tanaka once this year, but he’ll be looking to improve upon his 5-5 record with a win against the struggling Blue Jays. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM ET.
