Roxanne "The Happy Warrior" Modafferi versus Jennifer Maia - UFC on ESPN 4

Toughness, heart, intelligence, and awkwardness are some words I would use to describe Modafferi. Probably has more in the strength department than pure athleticism or coordination. Seems to have perhaps below average striking but she is a very good grappler. Her main and best chance to win is if she grapples.

Jennifer Maia's style is not similar to jiu-jitsu specialist Demian Maia, despite them sharing the same last name. Jennifer has sharp hands that she throws confidently. Overall she seems like a good athlete. Maia actually defeated Modafferi in 2016 with a different organization. It was a championship bout Maia won by split decision.

I believe Maia gets it done. While Maia's pure grappling may be not as strong as Modafferi's I believe it is sufficient enough to neutralize Modafferi. Maia has much better striking and athletic talent, and a past win under her belt. I'm taking Maia.

Surprising trading. Both are successful.

Modaferri fails a takedown, turns into a fence battle.

Lots of grappling. Modaferri grinding it looks like.

Maia finding success a bit though.

Maia boxing better.

Weird round, I would say Maia won.

Round 2.

Maia beating up Modaferri. Modaferri lands a bit though.

Maia is boxing Modaferri up.

Maia seems to be wearing on Modaferri. Even in grappling exchanges Maia is winning in my opinion.

Maia in control going into round three.

Round 3.

Lots of trading early.

Maia winning everywhere, Modaferri is staying too conservative.

Maia is really landing semi- consistently.

Moddaferri has missed every takedown attempt.

Maia ends the round with a bit of ground and pound.

Maia has to get the win.

Results. Maia wins unanimous.
