Miesha Tate said, "I am thrilled to join ONE Championship as a Vice President. I truly believe in its mission of unleashing real-life superheroes who ignite the world with hope, strength, dreams, and inspiration. I’m honored to bring my experience as a world champion and to help inspire the next generation of athletes. And of course, I am excited to relocate to my new home, Singapore, and travel throughout Asia."
One CEO Chatri Sityodtong said, "It is both an honor and a privilege to announce that women’s mixed martial arts world champion Miesha Tate will be joining ONE Championship as vice president. Miesha has been an incredible pioneer for the sport and has been an inspiration for many young men and women. What impresses me most about Miesha is her humility, compassion, honor, and respect."
The move to hire Miesha Tate has me re-thinking my thoughts on the trade. If you happen to see the promotional videos for Singapore one of them lists Singapore as the center for high level martial arts. The video done by the government of Singapore, coupled with these recent moves, tells me that One Championship now has money, and political support to build the brand and make Singapore a MMA powerhouse.
One of the big problems is the time zone difference. Events run in Asia are broadcasts at the wrong times to get viewership in the United States and Europe. I am curious to see if One makes a move to do events in the United States.
There is increasing talk that the UFC will release the fighters in the Flyweight division so this will be a boon for One.
Singapore is a great place to live and is incredibly modern. The living conditions there are better than most US cities so this may also be a big attraction to up and coming fighters.
This is going to be an interesting time.
