In this video I talk about roundhouse kicks and whether you should you pivot on your toes, or on a flat foot. Why you might want to do each type, and their pros and cons.
Depending on your style you may be taught a different method first. For example Karate, and Taekwondo has a different kicking style to Muay Thai.
In a nutshell, being up on your toes when you pivot will give you more speed and agility, while being flat footed will give you more stability and power.
I will usually teach people to kick from the pivot first, then when they have the balance and control I'll coach the flat foot version too.
Which version do you prefer? Whichever it is, I hope your training is going well!
Personally I prefer flat foot. Great video!
