The Nostalrius server was/is a private world of Warcraft running the core game, with no expansions or custom content added. No cash shop or any of that cancer, a pure game experience bringing people back to early/mid 2000's.
The server had 800.000 registered accounts and 150.000 active accounts , which is a lot for a private server of any kind. The server was shut down on April 10 2016 after receiving a cease and desist letter from Blizzard. After that the team behind Nostalrius had a sit down with blizzard discussing the possibility to bring back the core game on separate servers. Nothing have happened since then and the databases are now given to new owners, some of the core developer team has also gone over to this new project.
The stress tests have been run and the servers are being opened 17 December. I am very eager to join in on this as i played on Nostalrius and started my World of Warcraft adventure in 2006. I have taken breaks after every expansion because something is missing, they have made the game to easy and removed almost all of the social interaction that came with the original game.
I'm going to start fresh on their new pvp server and i hope to see other steemians in there, maybe we could make a steem guild?
I think it is great that the vanilla people get a new option now that Nostalrius is gone. I personally enjoy Legion far too much to go back to any of those options, but since Blizzard does not care about the vanilla core, I'm glad that there are private servers that can scratch that itch.
Yeah i fully agree. I played Legion for about a month before i put it away, have done the same for every expansion except burning crusade and Wrath of the lich king.
