Mobile Apps That Steals Your Information (protect your crypto accounts)

in mobile •  8 years ago

Recently in the crypto community we have heard of hacks that resulted in the theft of large amounts of crypto tokens and Bitcoins by faking sim registrations on mobile devices.

A research by SophosLabs revealed apps that steal your private information even when an app states it does not access such information.

https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2017/05/10/the-google-play-apps-that-say-they-dont-collect-your-data-and-then-do/

such information includes:

  • User’s email address for Google account
  • List of apps installed
  • IMEI identifier and android_id
  • Screen resolution
  • Manufacturer, model, brand, OS version
  • SIM operator
  • App installation source

Wow that's insane it seems like our privacy is slowly being stripped away as it has been since MySpace came out and now these apps stating false things and collecting data that their. Not allowed to. Keep up the great work your helping out a lot of ppl. Thank you hope ur having an amazing day. I'm new to do this community and I'm loving it. :)

One has to be very careful these days, there are some many shadowbrokers online

Watch out! They're even here on Steem: @theshadowbrokers

Wow, like seriously? Just checked out the profile. Awesome share @pfunk

Wow?! I had no idea that apps could even do this. I thought mobile phones were normally protected against these kind of issues... Thank you for the warning!

Nothing is ever safe, you would think nuclear facilities are safe, we all saw what happened with the Iranian program. If your device is connected it's not 100% safe.

Amazing posts @joseph
If you like my articles @nivesh, please donate for my education, I am an engineering student, studying on loan and living in aided facilities. BTC address: 1Lop6vbYTDUcVrUtDTuZ6adcAoDydAKJS4

The Iranian nuke program wasn't even connected to the internet and the Israelis + Americans managed to get to it...

you would THINK that GOOGLE would TEST apps...and that all that time it takes to get apps approved on the app store would fucking go towards maybe LOOKING FOR SHIT LIKE THIS?!?! Kind of PROOF that Google WANTS bitcoin users to get hacked! Big globalists corporations that feed of the US dolllar being printed are trying to slow the inevitable so they can maybe get more cash to buy more BTC! They are strying to save up enough cash so theyc an buy TC when they ned to switch or maybe they are slowly buying bTC now???

ok maybe google isnt working wth these shadow pbrokers but how could tehy let this shit slide why is googe allowing all of these low wuality malware apps to be released on their fucking platform!?!?!

I am glad i have an iphone and I know apple is alot more strict...apple MUST protect its users or ther is no poiint using apple..they also give he illusion that the NSA cant soy on apple, its a joke, ttey just want the world to think apple is safe somehow, they lie about npt letting the NSA in, hah, benefit of having an ipone..

of course iphones can be hacked but the problem with andrpid is theres too many anroid devices, its bottom of the barrel, you get no choice, Apple iphone is ONE company its centarlzied, google android phones are just theres too many apps to keep track of, its so ubiquitos, so many android phones, there is some danger because of tat..hackers will look more into hacking android phones than they would iphone evcause theres just more android phonoes to hack...just dont get sloppy...i try to keep everthing on paper hand written no printers

You must be joking.

Oh my goodness that is such a long list!!! Thank you for sharing with us! Crazy that they're doing that.

That is not all the apps that steal your info, it's only some of them :D

Ohhhh I see! Well that's more refreshing to hear

I think I installed a couple of those in the past. darn...i guess i have to update my shit once more.

If I find any I would reset my phone. But I know how much of a hassle that can be. At least remove and change passwords, reset 2FA.

Everything is a big Fugazi

cryptography isnt fake....wars were won through cryptography

even if we were in a simulatio, bitcoins and crypto are still real as the 01s and 0s are stored somewherw in the matrix servers

Damn thats crazy! Thanks for the headsup 😀👍

Nice info @joseph

Thanks for great information @joseph,

We all kind of know these kind of things are happening whenever we install a random app. We just hoped they don't steal our data.

We were wrong.

Half the time people do not read the terms anyways since it takes a few hours and a legal degree. This is one of the many reasons I went back to using a dumb phone. When I was on the smart phone I limited the app installs and tried to uninstall anything that was not necessary for the operation of the phone.

This is insane. Some of those sound familiar though I haven't installed any thankfully. Thanks for posting. I had no idea things were this bad.

this is very informative, we should take care of our mobile..

Excellent Post.

excelente post amigo

Oy! I am wondering when people are going to start making "crypto advising" their carreer? It took me long enough to figure out where and how to buy it, now we have to figure out how to protect it. I need a crypto currency hotline please!

From what I've read, pretty much every flashlight app does so also.

I dont get why they even have flashlght apps, on iphones there is a flashlight button when you slide up from the bottom ...also every android now has a built in flashlight button..and if it doesnt they all have camera apps with the ability too to hit that flash button if there is an LED flash in teh first place....

cant believe peopel still download flashlight apps

android is oo ubiquitos so much hacking! ipone really is harder to hack it really is ...jst like windows is just easier to hack because tere exists many many many hacing tools made for awindows...same with android now too...hard to make stuff for hacking iphones and if you can find some toosl for that theyre expensive...apple actvly goes out and tries to get teh most recent shadowbroker tools to try and stay current....

one of the benefits of having an iphone!

i think if ur serious about bitcoins u should be using trezzors or case or hardwave or paper walllets printed out with BIT ARMORY and NOT bitaddress lol

we just need more paper altcoins

a hardware bitcoin AND altcoin wallet would be the killer walet

Only the latest operating systems of androids have the flashlight app pre-installed so the reason for their popularity among the naive, used to have it myself was a little faster than pressing the flash on the camera..

thanks useful info

Thanks for sharing these super crucial security info. When it comes to apps, I am super reserved about them. I only download the crucial apps and from verified developers. For most info, I prefer to use mobile browser, rather than specific apps. Keeps mobile faster too.

I recommend checking out the Blackphone. You can partition the phone's hard drive, one encrypted for storage of sensitive info and the other for use of social media apps, which we all know spy on us perpetually....

https://www.silentcircle.com/products-and-solutions/devices/

anyway, I have no affiliation with Blackphone at all but thought it to be a clever concept to fulfill a need. bless up!

I'm betting this doesn't happen with IOS. It was my understanding that a "sandbox" was created with this mobile apps, so they can only get access to things that are needed in order for them to operate.

Nice post.

Those are shit apps, I installed one, uninstalled the next moment lol

thanks for the info...

@joseph than you for sharing the whole list!

Thank for the information :)

Thanks for the info!!!

This post is very helpful. I have recently realized that downloading a free app isn't really free at all. We are paying for it by giving up our privacy.
