Perks of Being a Young Mom

Let's be honest: Being a young mom has a black stigma - you are seen as a black sheep, a rebel or worst, a slut. People will eye you, tell awful things behind your back and diss you. They will glare at you from head to toe like you have done the worst crime ever, even though they don't know you.

I had my fair share of bad experiences with other people when I was pregnant with my first child (and even now with my second). Those strangers look at me like I have wasted my life for being a young mom. It is really an awful feeling when they judged me because I conceived at an early age. At some point, they are right but that is only maybe 1% out of 100% because I believe being a young mom is not a disappointment but an opportunity to be better in life. It is not 'bad luck,' rather, a beautiful blessing.

I am not here to tell you to have kids early - that's up to you and your fate to decide. But if you are wondering and toying with the idea of having kids in your 20s, then you'll get to enjoy the perks of what a young mommy life can offer. Here are some benefits you can have for being a mom in your 20s:

1. No Age Gap Feels and Enjoy an early Empty-nest years

One of the perks of being a young mother is that you will also get to enjoy the hobbies of your child and relate to his interest. I'm 22 now and my first child is 2 years old so when he reached 13 years old I will be 33 years old, the age where people my age are just starting out a family. As he gets older, I feel like it will be easier for me to remember what life was like when I was his age.

Furthermore, when my child is already graduating college, I am 39 years young and so I get to enjoy retirement early (If I choose to), travel the world and experience life a lot more. I have many years for "Me Time" and wait to be a grandma. Oh, so many perks I can't wait!

2. You get to learn to be more responsible

Yes, this is one of the perks. No more happy-go-lucky girl but look at the bright side, I get to learn my priorities earlier and drive my life in the right direction. I have learned to manage my finances and buy only what I needed, which I think can take 10 years more to learn if I didn't become a mom. I learned to care more about other people's needs and be selfless. 

What's more? The responsibilities of being a mom gave me a positive motivation that I should do better as a person and improve my life for my child (children soon).

3. Your pregnancy will be lower at risk

Let's go to the more technical benefit: pregnancy at a young age can have a lower risk of complications. Women are said to be more fertile in their 20s so your chances of having a miscarriage or baby with a birth defect is as low as they'll ever be.

This is a really good news because chances of having a baby that has complications is expected to be minimal. Of course, you need to take good care of yourself when you are in your pregnancy and take the vitamins subscribed by your doctor.

4. Your kids will have a longer-lasting memorable relationship with their grandparents

Active grandparents are also a perks of being a young mom. You can ask your parents to watch over your kids when you need to ran errands without a problem. Because of your early start, your parents are also young enough to have a more active role in helping to raise your child.

5. Your body just works better

When you are young, your body is more flexible and fast which are needed when you have a toddler running around your house. You can kneel anytime without getting backache or chase a crawling baby for hours on end without feeling completely exhausted.
