Steemit is based on bitshares codebase primarily :)
This codebase is dubbed "Graphene" and is a very powerful blockchain. In fact it is arguable that the only on that gets close to it is Dash in terms of speed, and Dash will likely have problems scaling while bitshares can theoretically get down to 1 sec transactions and sub 3 second confirmation times...with unlimited scalability (though governed by how much the network is willing to pay for in terms of equipment required.
Lisk is actually based on bitshares 1.0 code (redone with javascript as opposed to c++). Though bts 1.0 has some strong features, i'd put it just above NXT. Add to this that they use javascript, which opens it up to more devs...and you have something pretty cool imo.
NXT is solid and has a great little community.
Monero I do not know too much about other than its use of ring sigs...but for privacy that is a nice little addition to the marketspace.
XEM---I need to learn more about them. I think they are going to go down to around 15-20 mil, but from what others have told me it is a cool platform, but not really anymore innovative than the others.
As far as MAID goes. I love the ideas...just hope they can pull it off. Whether or not they can is anyone's guess.
What do you think about Dash.. Maid.. Monero.. Lisk.. NXT.. XEM ?
Any hopefuls there?
