Hi Friends!
I want to start out by saying how stoked I am for Steemfest!! This will be my first time ever visiting Europe and it’s pretty crazy to think about all the cool steemians I will get to meet there. One of the things that I’ve seen a lot of people say in the comment section of @roelandp’s post is that they are going to start saving now to afford making SteemFest a reality.
I can totally relate considering the expense of traveling from the west coast over to Europe. I thought it might be timely to add another video to my “Money Saving Hack” video series – but this time, talk more about mindset and behavioral shifts.
There is one thing that I stopped doing that has really helped me detach from the want or need to buy things and has helped clear up more time and mental space for doing the things that I really want to be doing.
I hope you guys hearing a bit more about my journey when it comes to personal finance and spending and I hope that some of you may find it helpful in your own journey!
Ps… if you are thinking of going to SteemFest – I’d love to know! It’s fun to get hyped and excited with others about it.
It seems like you have the right idea Lea in terms of finances and your attitude towards spending money.
As for SteemFest, hopefully see you in Kraków! I'm living in Madrid, so not so much of a trek/expense but should be worth it for anyone who can make it happen. I went to Lisbon last year (even closer to Madrid!) and it was a perfect location and great time all round. I must admit, I was expecting somewhere like Austin… or certainly North America.
If you can manage to tie it in with some other places and do a little Euro trip it could all be a more than worthwhile experience. The plus side about eastern Europe is it's far cheaper than west… so can be done on a budget (as well as being an interesting place to explore). Food and drink will be mostly covered at SF and you don't necessarily have to stay at the main hotels (I didn't last year but I guess it's ideal if you can). It's that flight from the US that's the killer!
I've not made arrangements yet but will look to make plans next month. Enjoy! :D

Having a budget is a good skill to learn early in life. Although some of us have to save for survival reasons, its a good idea to build a list of bills in your head to help manage your money effectively. I agree that browsing for goods can be a death nail to budgets, especially if there is a great sale that you can't pass up. The smart move is just to delete your amazon app or any other app where purchases are only a quick away. Great advice my friend and a great video. I hope you are able to make it to steemfest.

I go in waves of tracking my monthly expenses - and I think i'm going to start up again in August. I like to get back on that train when I feel my spending start to wane. I've definitely been having too much sushi and coffee lately. haha

Oooooooooh I am already in Poland so cheers!!! Actually Poland is quite cheap to live in and there is a good possibility to spend a week here, plus the travel might only cost less than a thousand dollars. Of course everybody has a different budget because I can't even afford what I mentioned above.
All the saving tips you mention can be of immense help in the coming months for those who are looking to save up some dough before flying over for steemfest III.
I really agree with this idea of 'seeing a much bigger shift than just in the finances', when you learn to control your browsing habits. It is kind of more than just time and money and perhaps includes a certain freedom of mind. I find that once my basic expenses are in clear and I have decided to buy nothing else, I feel that some of my mental stress is kind of washed away.

The flights I was originally looking at were closer to $1500 - but I'm hoping to piece meal something together. I'll be looking into getting over to Europe and then maybe using a budget airline to finish the trip.

aww Beth it would have been so great to finally meet you! Maybe next year they will hold it in San Fran, Austin, or somewhere closer to us. It's a loooong way to Poland and with kids at home - it definitely makes sense that it wouldn't be feasible.

haha I hear ya! When I started looking at the looong flight times and expensive flights, I started having second thoughts - but I decided that I was going to figure it out. :)

i've heard a comparison that fits your point of adding things in the head. It was compared to a cellphone, like everytime open a new tab, and the more tabs there are open, the slower it is (less energy basically when talking about humans). :)

I'm definitely going to Steemfest and look forward to seeing you there. I'm going to be in Thailand at that time so I will be flying in from there and then going straight back to the warmth of the tropics.
The last gathering was SO much fun and I'm sure this one will be a blast too. Look foward to meeting you in person.
