Today I would like to walk you through some of the different forms of money throughout history:

Barter:

I love this one. I can give you a modern day example of barter executed and made possible by the steem blochain when I recently made a deal with @reseller exchanging 24 karat gold Mene charms for a gold legendary Steem monster!

Cowrie Shells:

Goldmoney Head of Research Alasdair MacLeod covers this one for me:

Salt:

This one is super interesting. I try to explain this one to Mrs. Goldmatters everytime we go to Costco. I’ll have to show her this blog.

Modern Coinage:

Note that the coins were assigned value based on their metal weight.... just like Mene.

Fiat Currency:

Unfortunately we are all familiar with this one. Issued “by decree” which means that unlike most of the other money we have talked about thus far, fiat currency has zero intrinsic value. It has value only because someone says it does. Which works until.... it doesnt. Fact: no fiat currency in history has ever survived.

Cryptocurrency:

If you are reading this, you already have a basic understanding of crypto. We can’t know exactly where we are going with cryptocurrency because if its nascent history, but thats also what makes it so exciting. FYI you can use crypto to buy Mene :)

Gold is made by a kind of exploding star so powerful it packs the atoms to make gold along with other stardust products like silver, etc. So it takes a particular exploding star to make a gold :)

Its amazing isn’t it @cryptopie? :)

You forgot in old days also people exchange with eggs and oil.

Interesting! I think that falls under barter

I fully agree with your statement that "precious metals stand the test of time like no other form of money."

Even the Senators in Alabama agree! Refer below article:

Thats awesome :) Hopefully more states will follow

I would take the silver/gold/platinum over seashells any day. @ironshield

What about.....a gold seashell!

Shelling out. ;))shelling out Capture.JPG

Hi goldmatters. The cattle instead of money is still in use in South Africa. The zulu custom states that when you get married the father of the bride receives so many head of cattle. This has value in their customs as the more cattle you have the wealthier you are. Basically you are bartering for the hand of his daughter in marriage.

Very interesting

Wow...realistic value of money thanks for sharing this memories @goldmatters kudos to you for the great research...

Thanks for reading:)

Yesterday I traded some old Walmart receipts for half a bottle of skunked beer.

The records of cash concerns the improvement of way of carrying out transactions related to a medium of alternate. cash is any surely identifiable object of price this is normally universal as fee for goods and offerings and compensation of money owed inside a market, or which is prison gentle within a country. while cash is usually a medium of exchange, no longer all mediums of change are cash inside the numismatic sense.
Massive evidence establishes many stuff have been bartered in historical markets that could be described as a medium of change. those included livestock and grain – matters directly beneficial in themselves – but also merely attractive gadgets including cowrie shells or beads had been exchanged for greater useful commodities. but, such exchanges would be higher defined as barter, and the not unusual bartering of a selected commodity (mainly while the commodity items aren't fungible) does not technically make that commodity "cash" or a "commodity cash" like the shekel – which changed into both a coin representing a selected weight of barley, and the burden of that sack of barley. because of the complexities of historic history (ancient civilizations developing at distinctive paces and not retaining correct information or having their facts destroyed), and because the historical origins of monetary systems precede written history, it is not possible to hint the proper beginning of the invention of money and the transition from " barter systems" to the " financial systems". in addition, evidence in the histories helps the idea that money has taken two major forms divided into the extensive classes of cash of account (debits and credits on ledgers) and cash of trade (tangible media of change crafted from wooden, paper, bamboo, metallic, and many others.), and it's miles debated which was created first.
